TURNING POINT
Boston College tied the game in the 60th minute on Lauren Berman's first goal of the season. Berman one-timed a cross from sophomore Gaby Carreiro into the far corner to tie the match at 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first 10 minutes, Boston College kept Arizona State goalkeeper Megan Delaney busy as the Eagles had two shots and a corner. Delaney had two saves off shots from McKenzie Meehan while the ASU defense blocked shot off the feet of Kayla Jennings and Hayley Dowd.
- In the 36th minute, a BC foul from 40 yards out resulted in a set piece. Arizona State's Devyn Kelsey placed the ball in the middle of the box. ASU's Jazmarie Mader out-jumped the Eagles defense and popped the ball over the outstretched hands of BC goalkeeper Alexis Bryant for a 1-0 State lead.
- The goal did not deter the BC offense as they earned two corner kicks and had a chance by Jennings that went wide and one by rookie Olivia Vaughn that Delaney easily handled.
- At the start of the second half, the Eagles offense pushed forward as forward Jenna Bike and Meehan each put Delaney to the test but the game remained, 1-0 Arizona State.
- After a BC foul, Arizona State's Lucy Lara had a chance that sailed high over the goal. The Eagles countered as Meehan pushed the ball up the sideline to Gaby Carreiro. The speedy second-year defender placed the beautiful low ball into the box. Berman sprinted into the box and one-timed the ball into the far post to tie the match, 1-1, in the 60th minute of play.
- Both teams had chances early in the first overtime. Hayley Dowd's shot off a corner kick was saved by Delaney, while Alexis Bryant stopped ASU's Lucy Lara shot from outside the box.
- Two minutes into the final overtime, Bryant kept the game tied off a save from a long ball from Christina Edwards. The Eagles had two chances off a corner kick with two minutes left in the match but both shots were blocked. The best chance came with 14 seconds to play as Amber Stearns was just inside the box but her shot hit the crossbar.
