Eagles Open 2016 Season This Weekend

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team will open the 2016 season on Friday at Providence at 7 p.m. at Chapey Field on the Friars campus.
The Eagles will open up at home on Sunday afternoon when Arizona State visits the Newton Soccer Stadium for a 1 p.m. match. Admission is free to all the Eagles regular season home games.
Boston College returns two of their top scorers from last year's NCAA Tournament team – McKenzie Meehan and Hayley Dowd. Meehan led the team with 17 goals and four assists while Dowd was second with 12 goals and two assists. Meehan was a first-team All-ACC honoree and named to the All-ACC Preseason team, while Dowd was named to the second team in 2015.
The Eagles return seven other starters including goalkeeper Alexis Bryant, defenders Allyson Swaby, Madison Kenny and Meghan MacDonald as well as midfielders Lauren Berman (three goals, four assists in 2015), Gaby Carreiro and Amber Stearns.
Head Coach Alison Foley added 11 freshmen to the 2016 squad which is one of the top recruiting classes in the country. The class includes goalkeeper Erin Seppi, forward Jenna Bike, defender Erin Convery, forward Francesca Venezia, midfielder Jade Ruiters, forward Olivia Vaughn, midfielder Emily Langenderfer, defender Caitlyn Keenan, forward Kaitlyn Bryan, and defender Samantha Hiatt, who is coming off a stint with the Under-19 U.S. Women's National Team. Also in the mix is red-shirt freshman Kayla Jennings, who arrived from Maryland.
Providence went 13-8-1 last season and was picked to finish sixth in the Big East preseason poll. The Friars return Rachel Ugolik (five goals, three assists in 2015) and All-Big East preseason selection Christina Klum. Boston College is 2-1 in its last three meetings against Providence.
Boston College finished the 2015 season with an 11-7-2 record. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in program history, 14th time with Coach Foley at the helm. Boston College received votes in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Poll and was selected to finish eighth in the ACC in the conference coaches poll.
