Highlighting alumni updates
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – Over the weekend, the Boston College football team held their first intrasquad scrimmage and showed improvements on both sides of the football. On the offensive side, redshirt sophomore Darius Wade and graduate transfer Patrick Towles, who is looking to improve on last year's performance with the University of Kentucky, took the majority of the snaps.
Also making a name for himself on the offensive side is junior Charlie Callinan, who showed off his ability to catch the ball. While redshirt freshman Davon Jones is proving to be a valuable asset in the power-run game, breaking multiple tackles during the scrimmage.
Junior middle linebacker Connor Strachan looked strong as well, taking the lead role on defense supporting the run-defense and giving commands to the entire unit.
On another football note, Andover Mass., native Mark Zavrl joined the BC team this fall as a walk-on after leaving the sport due to an ACL injury ending his high school career. The linebacker mentioned that the year away from football made him reconsider his choice and missed the game like crazy.
Alumni updates:
BC Field Hockey star Marlotte van den Bergh will be inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame on Sept., 18 for her time playing at Greenwich High School.
In the world of soccer, BC Alumni Alejandro Bedoya made his MLS debut for the Philadelphia Union this past weekend against the New England Revolution.
Former BC running back and Heisman Trophy Finalist Andre Williams finds himself in the middle of the tight competition for a spot on the New York Giants depth chart.
