Seven Eagles Set for U.S.-Canada Series

Burt, Flanagan, Keller, Lonergan, Newkirk will play for U.S. U22s, Capizzano to appear for Canada and Kennedy to coach U.S. U18s
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Seven Eagles from the 2016-17 Boston College women's hockey team have been chosen to represent their countries in the annual U.S.-Canada Series, which will be played this week in Calgary, Alberta.
Five players will represent the United States on the Under-22 Select Team, while one will play for Canada. Additionally, associate head coach Courtney Kennedy will serve as an assistant coach with the U.S. Under-18 team.
The U.S. Under-22 team will include junior goaltender Katie Burt, junior defenseman Kali Flanagan, junior defenseman Megan Keller, freshman forward Caitrin Lonergan and sophomore forward Makenna Newkirk. The Canadian Women's Development Team (the country's U22 equivalent) will include senior forward Kristyn Capizzano.
In addition to the heavy Eagle presence in the U.S. Under-22 Series, BC will also be represented by Kennedy at the U.S.-Canada U18 Series, which will be played simultaneously in Calgary.
The 2016 U22 and U18 Series will be played at Canada Olympic Park's Markin MacPhail Centre. All the games in this year's U22 and U18 series will be streamed live at usahockey.fasthockey.com.

This is the third-straight U22 team nod for Keller and second-straight selection for Flanagan. Burt, Lonergan and Newkirk are set to make their U22 debuts.
Keller is also a two-time IIHF World Champion with the full national team (2015, 2016). Burt, Keller and Lonergan were teammates on the U.S.' 2014 Under-18 team that won the silver medal at the IIHF U18 World Championship, while Burt and Lonergan teamed together in 2015 as the U.S. won the gold medal at the event.
This is Capizzano's second selection to Canada's Women's Development Team. She is a two-time gold-medalist at the IIHF U18 World Championships (2012, 2013 – captain) and a gold medalist at the 2015 Nations Cup with the Women's Development Team.
Kennedy is one of three assistant coaches for the U.S. U18 team for the 2016-17 season, which begins with the squad's three-game series against Canada later this week. This marks her third selection as a U18 assistant following stints in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Kennedy helped lead the U.S. to silver medals at the IIHF U18 World Championship both years.
Twenty-two players are chosen to represent each country at each age level following participation in their country's annual selection event: the USA Hockey Women's National Festival and the Canada Summer Showcase.
The three-game U.S.-Canada series is an annual event between the two countries, which has been held 12 times since 1999 and is held most years except for an Olympic year.
