Basketball Bio
Earned all-state honors as a senior after averaging 23.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals … named the 2016 Sun Journal Boys Basketball Player of the Year … scored 1,813 points in four seasons, averaging 24.1 in the last three years … led Havelock to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 3A playoffs after posting a perfect record in conference play and winning the Coastal 3A regular season and conference titles … scored 21 points and was named North Carolina's Most Valuable Player at the Carolina's All-Star Basketball Classic … recorded 43 points and 10 rebounds in the final game of his high school career … originally committed to North Carolina to play football as a wide receiver in 2014.
On why he chose Boston College…
"First of all, the coaching staff. Coach Christian and Coach Spin played a major role. When Coach Christian said he was going to be there – unlike all the other coaches – when he told me he was going to be there, he actually came the same day. The way they told me I could help with the program as far as coming in, giving it my all day in and day out."
On his expectations for summer workouts…
"I expected to come in here and work out hard. I have two classes and they've been really good so far."
On what has been the toughest part of workouts…
"The hardest thing we've had to go through is conditioning. I took a week off for vacation so coming back was the hardest."
On his football career…
"Football was something everybody did down there because that was the only thing people really get noticed for. Going into my senior year, I wanted to play the sport I loved. I played football because I liked it and my brother played it, but basketball was what I loved."
"I got an offer from Alabama after I decommitted (from North Carolina). Two weeks later after the first  (basketball) game, offers started to come in. During the season, more offers came in. I think I had 13 in a week. I just kept working for it."
On what his strengths are on the court…
"Being aggressive and getting after the player; shutting down their best player and doing my job."
One or two words to describe yourself on the court…
"Different breed."
One word to describe yourself off the court…
"Happy."
On what he is looking forward to the most this season…
"I'm looking forward to playing all of the teams that didn't recruit me and showing them what they missed out on."
