June 27, 2016 | Women's Hockey
Two-sport star will vie for a spot on the 2016-17 national lacrosse team
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Kenzie Kent is one of five Boston College lacrosse players among the 105 players selected to try out for the 2016-17 U.S. Women's National Team, US Lacrosse announced last week. Kent is a former member of the U.S. Women's Under-18 Team in ice hockey.
In addition to Kent – a rising two-sport junior – the Eagles' Dempsey Arsenault '19 (defense), Sarah Mannelly '16 (midfield), Elizabeth Miller '19 (defense) and Mikaela Rix '15 (midfield) were invited to the national-team try-out.
The national lacrosse team try-outs will be held Friday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 7, at US Lacrosse's national team training center in Sparks, Md.
Following the try-out, a pool of 36 players will be selected to train ahead of the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse Women's World Cup, which will be held in Guildford, England, July 13-22, 2017. Of the training pool, 18 players will ultimately be selected to represent the U.S. in the Women's World Cup next summer as the Americans contend for their third consecutive – and eighth overall – world title.
Kent is coming off her second shortened lacrosse season after joining the squad after wrapping up play with the women's hockey team in late March in both 2015 and 2016.
On the field this season, Kent earned first-team IWLCA all-region honors after copping second-team All-ACC accolades. She posted 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists) in just 10 games, ranking fifth on the team. As a freshman in 2015, she collected 25 points (22 goals, 3 assists) in just 8 games en route to national IWLCA All-Rookie team honors. She has helped lead the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament in each of her two seasons, as well as a top-five ranking in 2015.
On the ice, Kent has been part of the Eagles' last two Frozen Four teams, including the record-setting 2015-16 squad that started the season 40-0-0 and earned an appearance in the NCAA Championship game. She enters her junior year with 81 career points and was the 25th player in program history to reach the 75-point plateau.
Kent enters 2016-17 second among active players in career scoring and already ranks seventh in program history in career points per game (1.01), sixth in career assists per game (0.74) and 10th in career plus/minus (+91). In 2015-16, Kent recorded a career-best 43 points, which also included a career-high 15 goals.
Already accomplished on the international level with hockey, Kent won a pair of silver medals IIHF Under-18 World Championships (2013, 2014), and was a two-time member of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team, captaining the squad in 2014.
