Miami scored two runs to take a lead in the fourth but the Eagles fired back in the bottom of the inning with four to go up by two. It was a lead they would not relinquish.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the two teams battled through three without a run, Miami scored two in the fourth and BC came back with four in the bottom of the inning.
- Miami's Zack Collins led off the inning with a solo shot to right. Brandon Lopez followed with a base hit and moved to second on a sac bunt. Willie Abreu hit on back at King to put runners on the corners and Jacob Heyward hit a blooper to right to plate the second run. A single loaded the bases but King got a strikeout and pop up to get out of the inning.
- BC took the lead stared by Casey's solo shot to left. Cronin followed by doubling down the left-field line. Adams moved him to third with a sac bunt and sophomore Scott Braren drove him in with a grounder to second. Second baseman Johnny Ruiz bobbled the ball, allowing Braren to reach. Senior Logan Hoggarth singled to put two on and Bigras hit one to right. Both base runners crossed the plate as the ball went past right fielder Abreu and rolled to the wall.
- Miami got one back in the fifth but the BC defense was on display. Lopez drew a one-out walk tried to get to third on base hit through the left side. Shortstop Johnny Adams retrieved the ball in the outfield and gunned him down at the bag with King covering. Ruiz tripled to the corner in right to score a run before a fly ball got the Eagles out of the inning.
- The Eagles scored a run in the eighth to go up by two. Braren chopped one back up the middle for a base hit and freshman pinch runner Dominic Hardaway stole second to move into scoring position. With two down, Bigras singled through the right side to score Hardaway. He was out trying to get to second to end the inning.
