BC HIGHLIGHTS
- After going 0-3 with a walk, junior Nick Sciortino's career-long, 10-game hit streak came to an end. He recorded 16 hits, eight runs, five RBIs and eight walks during the streak, all which came after the catcher moved to the second spot in the order.Â
- Junior Johnny Adams went 1-4 and now has 20 hits in the last 15 games and is currently riding a six-game hit streak and has reached base in the last 11 games.
- Sophomore Jake Palomaki went 0-3 with a walk. He has now reached base in 34 of the Eagles' 41 games while his heads up base running plated the Eagles first run Tuesday afternoon.Â
- Sophomore Brian Rapp set a season high with 7 strikeouts in four innings of relief, allowing two hits and one run to 14 batters faced. His efforts earned him his first win of the season.Â
KEY PLAYS
- Boston College took advantage of a fielding error by the Rhode Island left fielder in the seventh inning that sent the batter, Mitch Bigras, all the way to third. He advanced home on a wild pitch assessed to the URI pitcher in the next at-bat to pinch hitter Scott Braren for the Eagles second run of the evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College got on the board in the top of the third inning when head's up baserunning by Jake Palomaki allowed him to plate the game's first inning. After he and Nick Sciortino drew back to back walks with one out, URI's pitcher threw a wild pitch that allowed the runners to advance. However, no one covered home and Palomaki took notice, beating the plethora of Rams running towards the plate for the team's first run.Â
- After URI loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the third, Brian Rapp came into relief and got out of the jam, striking out the first two Rams before getting a bouncer back to the mound that he threw over to first to end the Rhode Island threat.Â
- In the bottom of the sixth, Rhode Island evened the score at one apiece after the cleanup hitter notched a double to lead off the inning, finding no-man's land between the third baseman, shortstop and leftfielder. After the two-bagger, he advanced to third on an infield ground out and scored on a two-out double that got past the diving Cronin down the third base line.
- Mitch Bigras led off the seventh inning with a flyball to the left fielder that popped out of his glove. Heads up base running allowed the first baseman to advance all the way to third with no one covering the bag. The very next batter, pinch hitter Scott Braren, drew a four pitch walk, but a Rhode Island wild pitch on the fourth pitch allowed Bigras to take home and regain the lead for the Birds.Â
- John Nicklas, John Witkowski and Bobby Skogsbergh combined for six strikeouts over three no-hit innings to close out the Rams on Tuesday afternoon.Â
