BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-handed starter Justin Dunn threw his first complete game, striking out a career-high nine. He did not walk a batter in the outing and allowed just six hits and three runs, two earned.
- Sophomore Jake Palomaki was 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and two walks. He has reached base in 42 of the Eagles' 49 games, including the last nine, and has a hit in six of the last seven games. He also brings his career walks total to 84, 10th on BC's all-time list. His season total of 38 ties for third in BC record books.
- Junior Michael Strem tied a career high with a 4-for-5 day. He walked, scored a run and notched his 11th double of the season, which was the 45th of his career, ninth in BC record books. He has record at least one hit in 17 of the last 23 games.
- Junior Johnny Adams went 2-for-4 with two runs and his 13th doubles of the season. He extended his career-long hit streak to 14 games, a season long for the Eagles. He now has 33 hits in the last 22 games and has reached base in the last 19 games. The hit streak is tied with Dave Preziosi (2003-06) for sixth in BC record books (dating back to 2005).
- Senior Joe Cronin was also 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. His 111 career walks is second all-time at BC.
KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after five.
- When the Yellow Jackets threatened, narrowing the gap to two in the sixth, the Eagles poured on a four-run eighth to put the game of reach.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.
- In the first, Palomaki and Strem tallied back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners and with one down, Cronin knocked one to left to plate Palomaki for the first run of the game.
- In the second, Adams led off with a double to shallow left center after the Tech centerfielder slipped and left fielder Matt Gonzalez called off the shortstop but could not make the catch. Sophomore Mitch Bigras hit a one-out single to center to drvie in Adams.
- Strem started the third with a base hit to left and with one out, Cronin also knocked one to left. Gonzalez overran the ball, allowing Strem to score and Cronin to land on third. Gerogia Tech went to the pen for RHP Cole Pitts, who walked sophomore Scott Braren before getting a strikeout and groundout, stranding Cronin on third.
- The Eagles added a run in the fifth – without recording an at bat – to take a 4-0 lead. Junior Nick Sciortino and Cronin drew back-to-back walks and Braren moved them into scoring position with a sac bunt. Adams launched a long fly ball to the corner in right to bring in Sciortino on the tag up and advance Cronin to third. Another fly ball to right ended the BC scoring threat.
- The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the sixth to make it a 4-2 game. Connor Justus and Wade Bailey started things with back-to-back base hits to put runners on the corners and Gonzalez hit a sac fly to right to plate GT's first run of the game and move Bailey up to second. Dunn got a strikeout for the second out, but his pick off attempt sailed into center and Bailey moved to third. A balk scored the second run of the inning but Palomaki ended with diving stop in the hole.
- The Eagles broke open the game in the eighth, scoring four to up, 8-2. Adams led off with a single and three straight walks scored the first run of the inning. A balk brought in another BC run. GT pitcher RHP Robert WInbourne intentionally walked Strem to load the bases and Sciortino took advantage, launching one at the center-field wall to clear the bases, bringing in two more Eagles.
- Tech got its final run with two outs in the ninth. Kel Johnson tallied a one-out base hit up the middle before Dunn struck out the second out. Trevor Craport hit a fly ball to left center that senior left fielder Gabriel Hernandez could not make the running catch on, allowing Johnson to score. Dunn ended the game with his ninth K.
