CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After last year's extremely successful turnout, the second-annual Comm Ave Charity Classic will pit long-standing rivals Boston College and Boston University against one another on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Like last year, some of the programs biggest alumni will return for the friendly exhibition in which all proceeds will benefit Compassionate Care ALS and The Travis Roy Foundation in memory of Dick Kelly, Coach Jim Cotter, Ron Perryman and Richard Armstrong and in honor of Pete Frates and Travis Roy.
In 2015, the Comm Ave Charity Classic raised over $55,000 for Compassionate Care ALS and had 3,500 spectators. The 2015 game featured 27 current or former NHL players, three Hobey Baker Award winners, countless All-Americans, two Stanley Cup winners and two NHL Hall of Famers.
Compassionate Care ALS is a non-profit organization with a mission to support people diagnosed with ALS, their families and communities as they navigate the complexities, both physical and emotional, associated with the disease. The organization provides resources including equipment, educational workshops, Medicare/Medicaid assistance, guidance and awareness in living with ALS, caregiving and end-of-life issues.
As of right now, the Eagles are slated to return Mike Matheson (BC '16 - Florida Panthers), Brian Dumoulin (BC '13 - Pittsburgh Penguins), Jimmy Hayes (BC '12 - Boston Bruins), Kevin Hayes (BC '14 - New York Rangers), Johnny Gaudreau (BC '15 - Calgary Flames), Paul Carey (BC '12 - Washington Capitals), Patrick Brown (BC '14 - Carolina Hurricanes), Chris Kreider (BC '13 - New York Rangers), John Muse (BC'11 - Carolina Hurricanes), Tommy Cross (BC '12 - Boston Bruins), Parker Milner (BC '13 - New York Islanders) and Ben Smith (BC '10 - Toronto Maple Leafs).
The Terriers look to have Charlie Coyle (BU'14 - Minnesota Wild), Colin Wilson (BU '11 - Nashville Predators), John McCarth (BU '09 - San Jose Sharks), Evan Rodrigues (BU '15 - Buffalo Sabres), Matt O'Connor (BU '15 - Ottawa Senators), Matt Gilroy (BU '09 - New York Rangers/Spartak Moskva), Danny O'Rega (BU '16 - San Jose Sharks) and Matt Grzelcyk, (BU '16 - Boston Bruins) back on campus for the second-annual Comm Ave Charity Classic.
Many more names are expected to be unveiled as the summer unwinds.
Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m. (EST). Please visit ccals.org or click here to purchase tickets. Click here to donate.
