Schedule
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two members of the 2015-16 Boston College hockey team, goaltender Thatcher Demko (San Diego, Calif.) and forward Miles Wood (Manchester, Mass.), were named to the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship from May 6 to May 22 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.
Demko and Wood will team up with former Eagle Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Mass.), who played at Boston College for the 2014-15 season.
Demko will be representing the United States for the fourth time. A two-time U.S. National Junior Team member (2015, 2014), he earned a silver medal with the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team in 2013. Wood will be skating for the United States a second time after representing Team USA in the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto, Canada.
Hanifin has been accustomed to donning the red, white and blue as a member of Team USA in the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. The Carolina Hurricane played for the U.S. National Under-18 Team and helped Team USA capture gold at the 2014 IIHF World U-18 Championships. He also captained Team USA at the 2014 U-17 Hockey Challenge to a gold medal.
Hanifin will be the second-youngest skater on Team USA behind Auston Matthews.
Including Demko and Wood, there will be five skaters coming directly from college hockey on this year's World Championship squad. Three members from the University of Michigan, including JT Compher, Kyle Connor and Tyler Motte, will join the three Eagles on this year's team.
There are still a few open roster spots, but as of this release, there are 15 current NHL skaters (including Hanifin) on this year's club. Matthews, the anticipated No. 1 pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft, currently plays for the Zurich Lions of the Swiss-A League.
Wood signed a three-year entry level contract with the New Jersey Devils on April 8 while Demko inked a three-year entry-level contract on April 20 with the Vancouver Canucks.
