Women Ready for Penn Relays
April 26, 2016 | Women's Track & Field
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College Women's Track and Field Team will be participating in the 2016 Penn Relays in Philadelphia, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, on Thursday and Friday this week. The Eagles will be racing alongside some of the world's best competition, hoping for impressive marks and times.
Albeit a relay meet, the Penn Relays features individual events as well. Freshman Elizabeth Knoll will kick off the action for the Eagles in the high jump. So far this outdoor season, Knoll has jumped 1.68m (5'8") at the Raleigh Relays, qualifying for the NEICAAA Championships in the process. Knoll's best indoor height was a personal record of 1.70m (5'7").
A 4x100m relay team for the Eagles will feature some of the team's best speedsters. Senior captain Carly Daniel will come out of the blocks and run the first turn for the Eagles, before giving way to sophomore Johanna Celli for the back straightaway. At the 200m mark, the stick will be passed off to senior Jacqui Hannon for the third leg, who will then pass to junior Robin Gross to anchor the Eagles to the finish.
Finally, to close out the meet, the Eagles will run a 4x400m relay. Although a 400m hurdler, Julia Barron will be leading off the first leg for the Eagles and will hand the baton off to Celli for the second leg. Leg three will be run by Gross, and Daniel will do the anchoring duties.
