Safron Claims Eagles' Lone Win at ACC Championship

Eagles see their 2015-16 season end with loss to No. 60 Florida State
CARY, N.C. – The No. 66 Boston College women's tennis team saw its season close on Wednesday afternoon following a 4-1 loss to No. 60 Florida State in the first round of the ACC Championship. Emily Safron won the team's lone singles match of the day.
FSU started the match by taking the doubles point, claiming the win on No. 2 court where the Seminoles' team of Daneika Borthwick and Danielle Schippers topped Safron and Katya Vasilyev in a tie-break. Earlier, BC's duo of Asiya Dair and Wan-Yi Sweeting won 6-0 over Kathryn Phillips and Ariana Rahmanparast, before Yukako Noi and Gabriella Castanda topped Lexi Borr and Jackie Urbinati, 6-2, to force the decisive match on Court 2.
In singles, Safron's 6-0, 6-4 straight-set win on the No. 4 court over Julia Mikulski was BC's lone win. The Seminoles claimed wins on the No. 2 court (Castaneda over Borr, 6-3, 6-0), No. 5 court (Rahmanparast over Urbinati 6-4, 6-2) and No. 6 court (Schippers over Sweeting 6-2, 7-5) to take the match.
At the time her match was abandoned, Dair had split the first two sets against 38th-ranked Borthwick on the No. 1 court, falling 6-3 in the first before winning 6-1 in the second. The players were knotted at 1-1 when the match was over. Vasilyev saw her second set even at 2-2 after she dropped the first-set tie-break to Noi.
BC closed the 2015-16 campaign with a 9-14 overall mark and a 3-11 mark in ACC regular-season play.
