Eagles’ junior forward headed to strength and conditioning camp in early May
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College junior Kristyn Capizzano has been called in for Hockey Canada's National Women's Program strength and conditioning camp, taking place May 4-8, in Hamilton, Ontario.
The forward from Oakville, Ontario is one of 47 players in the Women's National Development Team (Under-22) pool called into the camp.
The on- and off-ice sessions will "introduce and reiterate Hockey Canada's expectations in areas such as nutrition, mental conditioning, physical fitness, testing, training, and other positive daily behaviors."
Players selected for this camp are under consideration for the Canadian teams that will compete in a three-game series against the U.S. Under-22 team this summer in Calgary, as well as the 2017 Nations Cup and the Women's National Team.
Capizzano was last called into Canadian camp last July and August ahead of the U.S.-Canada U22 series. She was also a member of the gold-medal winning Canada squad at the 2015 Nations Cup - which was played Jan. 3-6, 2015, in Fussen, Germany - where she scored one goal against Sweden in the gold medal game. Capizzano was a two-time gold medalist at the IIHF U18 World Championships (2012, 2013).
After three seasons at Boston College, Capizzano has made 116 career appearances and scored 31 goals and added 47 assists for 78 career points. She was the 25th player in program history to reach the 75-point plateau.
The Eagles, who wrapped up the 2015-16 season with a 40-1-0 record, finished the year with their best-ever final ranking of No. 2 in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The team's 40 wins were the second-most in a season in NCAA history. In 2016-17, the Eagles are set to return 17 players from this year's team and will add seven freshmen to the roster.
