Eagles 2V8 Boat Places First Saturday

Eagles Second Varsity Eight Squad placed first while three events were cancelled due to windy conditions on the Charles River course

BOSTON - The Boston College women's rowing team was back on the water Saturday morning, where the Eagles saw three boats compete in a wind-shortened event against Boston University, Rhode Island and Radcliffe on the Charles River.

Due to wind conditions, only the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight boats competed. The Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four events were all cancelled.

In the Second Varsity Eight event, the Eagles boat placed first with a time of 6:57.4, ahead of its two competitors, second place finisher Rhode Island (7:02.7) and third place finished Boston University (7:06.7).

In the Varsity Eight event, Rhode Island defeated the Eagles boat by less than three seconds. The Rams placed first with a time of 6:42.6, ahead of BC's 6:45.1 finish and took home the Resolute Cup, given annually to the winner of the Varsity Eight race. The Terriers placed third with a time of 6:51.2.

In the only other event this morning, Boston College's Third Varsity Eight boat placed second behind Harvard-Radcliffe with a time of 7:32.2. Radcliffe dominated the only event they competed in, placing first with a time of 7:08.2, 24 seconds ahead of the Eagles.

Boston College will be back on the water tomorrow when they head to Worcester to take on Holy Cross.
