Â
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 55 Boston College women's tennis team topped visiting Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon, claiming a 4-3 victory over the Panthers.
Â
The Eagles (8-9, 3-7 ACC), who snapped a two-match skid, dropped the doubles point after starting the match outside on the Flynn Recreation Complex's courts. The tandem of Wan-Yi Sweeting and Heini Salonen won BC's lone match in doubles, claiming a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot.
Â
Despite starting the match outside, high winds forced the teams inside for the singles competition. BC then claimed the first four singles matches – highlighted by both No. 113 Lexi Borr's three-set win at the No. 2 spot and Jackie Urbinati's three-set triumph on the No. 4 court.
Â
After dropping the first set 6-4, Borr won the second 6-2. She then trailed 4-3 in the third set before winning the final three games to claim the decisive win and seal the victory for the Eagles. Urbinati lost the first set 6-3, but came back with 6-3 and 6-0 wins in the second and third sets to win her match.
Â
No. 86 Asiya Dair (6-2, 6-1) and Emily Safron (6-1, 6-3) won their matches at the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively, in straight sets.
Â
The Eagles return to action on Sunday, April 3, when they host No. 19 Wake Forest at the Dedham Health & Athletic Complex at 5 p.m.
