KEY PLAYS
- Bigras broke the 2-2 tie in the fourth to give BC a lead the Eagles did not relinquish.
- They added three in the sixth, which ultimately were the winning runs, as Pitt notched a run in the sixth and seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles were the first to strike, notching two in their first at bat as sophomore Jake Palomaki drew a lead-off walk and Cronin launched the first pitch he saw over the wall in left field.
- The Panthers capitalized on BC errors to plate a run in the bottom of the inning. King struck out the first batter of the game looking but gave up a double to Charles LeBlanc. LeBlanc moved to third when King's pickoff attempt sailed into center and Nick Yarnell plated him with a sacrifice fly to shallow right.
- Pitt tied the game in the bottom of the second with two down. Frank Maldonado drew a walk and moved to third on a single. Jacob Wright drove him in with a base hit to right center. Sciortino caught Wright stealing second to end the inning.
- Bigras put the Eagles back on top with his solo shot to centerfield.
- BC added three runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead. Junior Johnny Adams drew a one-out walk and Pitt went to the bullpen for righty Garrett Wrambel. With two down, Palomaki doubled to left to drive in Adams, who stole second to move into scoring position. Cronin was intentionally walked and Casey came through with a single to right to put runners on the corners. New pitcher RHP Tyler Garbee balked, allowing Cronin in before a pop up ended the inning.
- The Panthers got one back in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-3. Alex Kowalczyk doubled to left center and David Yanni brought him in with a base. King came back with two straight Ks before allowing a single to put runners on the corners. Redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh relieved King and got a grounder to short to get out of the inning.
- Pitt added one in the seventh to make it a two-run game. Skogsbergh walked the first two batters he faced before forcing a chopper to short. Adams got the lead runner at third for the first out. A balk moved the runners to second and third and a sac fly to right by Kowalczyk scored a run. Sophomore LHP Kevin Connor entered the game but hit the two batters he faced to load the bases. Sophomore RHP Brian Rapp ended the inning with a strikeout swinging.
- Dunn threw a 123 ninth with two Ks to seal the BC victory.
