Ritchie Joins US Team at IAAF Championships

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—Boston College track & field/cross country assistant coach Tim Ritchie has been invited to join the U.S. National Team at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. The event will be held in Cardiff, Wales beginning on March 26th.
Ritchie, who ran at the US Olympic qualifier for the marathon only six weeks ago, says that he is extremely excited for his first opportunity to represent his country. Following the Olympic qualifier, Ritchie knew that his body would need rest in order to bring his best to the IAAF Championships. His preparations revolved mainly around recovery distance runs as well as some shorter "race" workouts.
Ritchie was one of five runners selected to the team. The qualifying time for the championships was 1:05.00, which Ritchie shattered last fall in Philadelphia, winning the Rock 'n' Roll Philly Half in 1:01.22.
The Brighton native hopes to use this opportunity as a learning experience, having never competed for the United States in a major national competition. His hope is to be a strong contributor to the team and to help them finish in the top-5 in the world. Ritchie says that it is an "honor" to be chosen for the team and plans to "validate that honor by giving all I have for 13.1 miles."
