
Three Eagles Earn Hockey East Postseason Honors

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Three Boston College hockey players, including junior defensemen Steve Santini alongside rookies Colin White and Casey Fitzgerald were honored in Hockey East's annual postseason awards on Wednesday morning.

The Hockey East Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year along with the Hockey East First-Team, Second-Team and Honorable Mention All Stars will be unveiled on Thursday evening at the league's postseason banquet held at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge. The recipients will be recognized tomorrow night by ESPN's John Buccigross.

Santini was heralded as Hockey East's best defensive defensemen, skating in all 37 for the Eagles this season, tallying a career-best 17 points via one goal and 16 assists in his third year on The Heights. The Mahopac, N.Y., native has been a staple in BC's lineup after returning from injury and missing 16 games as a sophomore.

The 6-foot-2 blue liner is Boston College's seventh Eagle to win this award and first since Patrick Wey was named best defensive defenseman in 2013.

Both White and C. Fitzgerald were named to the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, denoting the seventh-consecutive season at least one Eagle has been listed on the squad.

White has been a national presence all season and currently the third-leading scorer amongst all freshmen nationally in 2015-16. The Ottawa draft pick is Boston College's first rookie to attain 40 points in his first season since Johnny Gaudreau did so in 2011-12. White as accounted for 18 goals and 22 assists, averaging 1.21 points per game. The Hanover, Mass. Native is ranked 16th in all of college hockey in scoring.

C. Fitzgerald has been a force all season for the Eagles on the blue line. The North Reading, Mass. Native is Boston College's leading scorer as a defenseman, recording four goals and 20 assists in 35 games played. His eight assists on the power play also stand as a club high this season. The 5-foot-11 defenseman is tied for second on the team in plus-minus rating with his brother, Ryan Fitzgerald, at +25.
