Skarupa, Keller, Bizal recognized for their work in Eagles’ NCAA Quarterfinal win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 1 Boston College women's hockey swept Hockey East's weekly awards on Monday after the Eagles defeated conference foe No. 6 Northeastern in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday to claim a berth in their sixth Frozen Four in program history.
Haley Skarupa was tabbed the Warrior Player of the Week for the third time this season, while defenseman Grace Bizal picked up her first Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week nod of the season. Megan Keller was the Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Skarupa led the Eagles with four points in the team's 5-1 win over Northeastern on Saturday at Kelley Rink. The Rockville, Md., product scored one goal and added three assists, marking the second-straight game she's registered a four-point outing. On the season, Skarupa is third nationally in scoring with a career-high 77 points. She has a career-high 33 goals and leads the nation with a career-best 44 assists. She also shares the national lead in game-winning goals (8) and is second nationally in power-play goals (12).
Bizal picked up her first weekly conference honor after collecting an assist on the Skarupa's goal and earning a +2 rating along the blue line in the victory. All 11 of her points this season have been assists. The Minnetonka, Minn., product has appeared in all 39 games and is +34 on the season.
Keller paced the Eagles' defense that limited Northeastern – the nation's third-ranked offense, which averaged 4.29 goals per game and 36.8 shots per game – to just one goal and 22 shots. The Farmington Hills, Mich., product also collected a pair of assists – including one on Tori Sullivan's game-winning goal – to push her season scoring line to 50 points from 12 goals and 38 assists.
Keller is the first defenseman in program history to record 50 points in a season, and her 38 assists not only rank fourth nationally among all skaters, but is a BC single-season record by a defenseman. Her +64 rating leads all players nationally, while her 50 points are the 10th-highest total in the country.
The No. 1 Boston College women's hockey team (39-0-0) will face No. 5 Clarkson (30-4-5) in the national semifinals on Friday, March 18, at 4 p.m. The Frozen Four will be played at New Hampshire's Whittemore Center in Durham, N.C. The winner of the BC-Clarkson semifinal will face the winner of the No. 2 Wisconsin-No. 3 Minnesota semifinal on Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m. in the national championship game.
Frozen Four three-game packages and individual-game tickets are available through Ticketmaster. Boston College will be the home team for the duration of its run at the tournament.
