Freshman leads all conference freshmen in weekly honors
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman Makenna Newkirk won Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., product collected a team-high five points as the top-ranked women's hockey team swept Maine in the teams' Hockey East Tournament quarterfinal series last weekend. Newkirk scored three goals and added two assists, second-most points in the conference last week and most by any freshman nationally last week.
In Friday's 5-2 win, Newkirk scored two goals and added an assist as the Eagles took a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Saturday, she added another goal – her 21st of the season, most among freshman nationally – and an assist as BC finished the series with a 5-1 win.
This is Newkirk's fourth Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award this season, most among freshmen in Hockey East this year.
The No. 1 Boston College women's hockey team (36-0-0) will next face Connecticut (17-14-5) in the semifinals of the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday, March 5.
