Irish Take Final Match to Claim Win

Borr and Safron win both matches on the day
DEDHAM, Mass. – The No. 71 Boston College women's tennis team fell in the final match of the day as No. 30 Notre Dame claimed a 4-3 win in conference play on Friday.
Boston College (5-5, 0-3 ACC) started off strong, claiming the doubles point via wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The duo of Lexi Borr and Jackie Urbinati upset No. 21 Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson, 6-3, before Katya Vasilyev and Emily Safron teamed to top Mary Closs and Julie Vrabel, 6-4.
Closs then evened the match for Notre Dame (8-3, 3-0 ACC) when she defeated Jackie Urbinati at No. 4 singles in straight sets before Brooke Broda put the Irish ahead with a straight-set win over Wan-Yi Sweeting.
Back-to-back singles wins by Borr and Safron put the Eagles back on top with two singles matches remaining. Borr claimed her second win over No. 41 Gleason on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot, before Safron defeated Allison Miller on the No. 3 court in third-set tie-break.
However, Notre Dame won both remaining singles matches, including a three-set win on the No. 6 court to take the win on the day.
Boston College (5-5, 0-3 ACC) will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 28, when they travel to Virginia Tech for a noon contest in Blacksburg, Va.
