CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—Boston College women's track and field team is geared up for this weekend's ACC Indoor Championship. The meet, which is being hosted by BC this year, will be contested from Thursday through Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury, Mass.
The Reggie Lewis Center, considered one of the northeast's premier track and field facilities, holds many of the nation's high-level track and field events including the New Balance Grand Prix and last year's USATF Indoor Nationals.
The meet will begin on Thursday with the multi-events, weight throw, and distance medley relay. On Friday, the field events start at 12pm with the men's high jump and the running events kick off with the women's mile qualifier. The meet schedule wraps up in the evening with the women's 5000m final on the track and the women's high jump competition. The final day of the meet is Saturday, beginning at 11am and features the finals of all the running events from the 3000m and shorter as well as the shot put and triple jump, concluding with the 4x400m relay.
The Eagles have a total of twenty-three athletes prepared to compete this weekend. The team enters the championships following a record-setting contest at the BU Valentine Inivitational two weeks ago. Senior Captain Carly Daniel, who moved into third place all-time on the BC list in the 200m in the last meet will be participating in the DMR, 400m and 4x400 relay. Daniel is joined in the DMR by BC's top 800-runner this year, Molly McCabe, standout freshman Paige Duca leading off in the 1200 leg, and the DMR will be anchored by Grad Captain Liv Westphal who already holds the indoor school records for BC in the 3000 and 5000.
Graduate student Laura Hottenrott heads to the ACC Championships after moving into fourth all-time in the 3000m at BC. Hottenrott and Liv Westphal who both have 5000 times in the top-16 of the NCAA this year will both be racing the 3000this weekend. The 5000 on Friday night will be highlighted by the third of BC's trio of superb Grad students, Danielle Winslow. Winslow is number two on BC's outdoor steeplechase list and has run her PR in the 5000 already this season. She looks to better that mark at the ACC Championships.
In addition to the senior stars, BC has entered a large contingent of first-year student-athletes to the meet. Red-shirt freshman Molly McCabe will run her prime event, the 800, and will also anchor the 4x400 on Saturday. McCabe is joined by freshman Gianna Bender in the 800. The entries from BC in the mile are both freshman, Paige Duca and Erica Hefnawy. The high jump will be an exciting event as freshman Elizabeth Knoll, who has already twice hit her best mark in the event, will be squaring off against a deep field.
The ACC Championships can be viewed on ESPN3 on Friday from 5-8pm and Saturday from 1-4pm.
