TURNING POINT

Teddy Doherty scored an insurance power play goal in the second period as the defense stood tall in the third to maintain the 3-1 victory.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vermont drew blood quickly, just 15 seconds into the contest.
Â
The Catamounts won the initial draw and Jonathan Turk skated it in and wristed it into Demko's area and the puck just slipped through his pads for the 1-0 UVM advantage.
Â
The Eagles responded in transition five minutes later after Steve Santini triggered the play from the neutral zone. Santini connected with Wood and he brought down to the far corner and relayed it to Austin Cangelosi on the left post. Cangelosi snuck behind the Catamount defense and banged home the pass at 5:37 to tie it up, 1-1.
Â
Right after the Cangelosi marker, Dan Senkbeil was called for hooking at 6:23 and Zach Sanford made Vermont pay 19 seconds later on the power play.
Â
Boston College won the ensuing draw in UVM's end and Sanford was able to paddle in a loose puck on the right post because UVM's Pack Munson could not cover from his position in time as BC took its first lead of the night, 2-1, at 6:44 of the first frame.
Â
The Eagles staved off three-consecutive penalties at the end of the first and beginning of the second and gave the power play unit even more momentum as Teddy Doherty gave BC the two-goal edge on the power play at 9:56 of the second period.
Â
Yvan Pattyn was whistled for high-sticking at 8:39 and Doherty was able to toss a great cross-crease feed to the back of the net for a 3-1 advantage. Colin White was the quarterback on the play, hitting Sanford with the pass from the left side of the zone, just one stride away from where Doherty tallied.
Â
Neither team could find the back of the net as the Eagles' penalty kill staved off two more BC penalties.
Â
Vermont's Kevin Sneddon hailed for timeout with just over three minutes left in regulation and lifted Munson for the extra skater. Vermont tested Demko, but he stood his ground and preserved the 3-1 victory and a first-round bye in the Hockey East playoffs.
