Boston College suffered a tough, 74-63, roads loss to NC State on Thursday night in ACC action. The Eagles were led by Kelly Hughes with 21 points and six boards while, rookie Mariella Fasoula chipped in with 19 points and five rebounds.
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Kelly Hughes was 9-for-14 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three-point arc to finish with 21 points. She also had six rebounds.
- Mariella Fasoula chipped in with 19 points and five boards.
- Kailey Edwards and Katie Quandt combined for 12 points and five boards off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC opened on a 12-0 run behind seven points from Kelly Hughes. NC State got in the scoring column on a jumper with six minutes to play. Fasoula scored her sixth point of the quarter at 1:20 and BC held a 20-6 lead. NC State finished the quarter with a 4-0 run as BC led, 20-10 after one. The Eagles shot 75 percent from the floor in the quarter.
- A 5-2 run by NC State to open up the second quarter cut the BC lead to 22-15 at the seven minute mark. NC State took its first lead on an 11-0 run behind three three's, two from Camille Anderson. BC stopped the run on a three-point play by Katie Quandt with 1:59 to play. A three by Kelly Hughes gave BC a 31-29 lead at the half.
- BC shot 57 percent from the floor and grabbed 17 boards while NC State shot 36.7 percent and had 12 boards. The Eagles 13 first half turnovers resulted in 10 points for the Wolfpack in the half.
- A wild back and forth game continued in the third quarter. NC State outscored BC, 21-20 but the Eagles held a 51-50 lead. Fasoula had six points in the quarter.
- The final quarter the action continued. BC opened with Fasoula on the inside. She then picked up her fourth foul at 8:29 in the quarter. A jumper by Chelsea Nelson extended the NC State lead to five points at 6:33. Hughes hit a layup at 5:26 but NC State held a 64-57 lead with less than five to play.
- NC State slowly pulled away as the Eagles offense went cold. Wolfpack senior Miah Spencer scored four straight points for a 70-61 lead with 1:22 to play. BC was 1-for-6 in the final 1:26 of the game.
