Eagles’ sophomore garner first- and third-team honors, respectively from the NFHCA
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Two Boston College field hockey players earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America honors, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Â
Sophomore Frederique Haverhals claimed first-team honors, while sophomore midfielder Ymke Rose Gote was a third-team selection.
Â
This marks the second-straight year – and ninth time overall – that Boston College has placed a pair of players on the coaches' All-America team. Haverhals is one of four sophomores on the 16-player first team that also includes one graduate, seven seniors and four juniors.
Â
Boston College has now had at least one All-American in each of the last 14 seasons, dating back to 2003.
Â
Haverhals' and Gote's recognitions add to an already successful year in which they previously earned second-team All-ACC and first-team NFHCA All-Northeast Region honors.
 Â
Haverhals started all 20 games at center back and finished the season fourth on the Eagles in scoring with 17 points (5 goals, 7 assists). She was a constant presence on both attacking and defensive penalty corners and was the conference's co-defensive player of the week on Oct. 11 for her play in the Eagles' two road wins at No. 8 Louisville and Indiana.
Gote was one of the Eagles' key cogs in the midfield, influential in both outletting and defending. Like Haverhals, she was also a prime outlet on both attacking and defensive penalty corners. Gote started all 20 games and collected a career-high five assists while matching her freshman total of 10 points.
Boston College finished the season with a 10-10 record and advanced to its 11th NCAA Tournament in program history. BC went 3-3 in ACC play – matching its best-ever finish in the conference – and also drew the No. 3 seed in the ACC Championship, its highest-ever seed.
