The Eagles will be among the group vying for spots on the U.S. roster for the upcoming two-game Canada series
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Three current members of the Boston College women's hockey team are among the 37 players who have been called into U.S. Women's National Team camp ahead of the upcoming U.S.-Canada two-game series later this month.
A trio of juniors – goaltender Katie Burt, defenseman Kali Flanagan and defenseman Megan Keller – will join five former Eagles and one future Eagle at the camp, which will be held Dec. 12-15 at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
At the conclusion of the camp, the formal game roster for the two-game series against Canada will be announced. This camp will also be used to help formulate the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship that will be hosted at USA Hockey Arena from April 1-8.
Burt, Flanagan and Keller will join a host of past and future Eagles in camp that includes Cayla Barnes '21, Alex Carpenter '16, Emily Pfalzer '15, Haley Skarupa '16, Kelli Stack '11 and Dana Trivigno '16. A total of nine Eagles will be among the 37 camp participants.
All three of the current Eagles were members of the U.S. Under-22 Select Team this past summer, with Keller serving as an alternate captain of the squad.
Keller has been a full member of the senior national team since 2014. She has helped the team win back-to-back IIHF Women's World Championships (2015, 2016) as well the 2014 and 2016 Four Nations Cups. Burt and Flanagan have both participated in past training camps with the full national team. Barnes, who will join the Eagles in the Fall of 2017, was the captain of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team this summer.
The U.S. and Canada – the top two teams in the world – will meet in Plymouth, Mich., on Saturday, Dec. 17, and in Sarnia, Ontario, on Monday, Dec. 19. The game on Dec. 17 is part of the first-ever Team USA Winter Champions Series, a daylong celebration of the Road to Pyeongchang that will feature three Olympic events. In addition to hockey, which will be broadcast on NBCSN, the series will include luge and big air snowboarding.
