Eagles’ goaltender grabs second conference weekly honor of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior goaltender Katie Burt earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday. This marks her second conference weekly honor of the season after earning Warrior Player of the Week recognition on Oct. 24.
Â
In the Eagles' lone game last week, Burt posted a 17-save shutout at Providence while helping back Boston College to an 8-0 road win.
Â
The shutout was not only her third of the season, but also the 18th conference shutout of her career. It moved her into a tie for Hockey East's career shutouts mark in league games, matching UNH's Melissa Bourdon '07.
Â
The Lynn, Mass., product now has 26 shutouts in her career, which is the Boston College record and also ranks eighth on the NCAA career list – three back of seventh place.
Â
This week's defensive player of the week award is the 17th in-season conference honor – and 11th weekly award – of Burt's career.
Â
Sixth-ranked Boston College (11-3-3, 10-2-1 HEA) closes the first half of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 7, when the team travels to Dartmouth for a 6 p.m. game at Thompson Arena. Following Wednesday's contest, the Eagles will take a four-week break from the schedule for the holidays and international play and return to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 4, when they host Syracuse at Kelley Rink.
