Schneider Arena | Providence, R.I.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st, 00:24 | 1-0, BC GOAL - On the Eagles' first rush of the game, Makenna Newkirk skated the puck in down the left wing and sent a centering pass in for Andie Anastos on the far post. Madison Myers broke up that chance, allowing Delaney Belinskas to jump on the rebound, which was blocked. Toni Ann Miano came into the slot behind the play and jumped on the rebound, potting it past Myers just 24 seconds into the game for the 1-0 BC lead.
- 1st, 11:32 | 2-0, BC GOAL (PPG) – Miano struck again coming in behind the play, this time netting the rebound of Megan Keller's shot from the center point in past Myers. Newkirk pulled the puck off the half boards and played Keller at the left point, who centrally along the blueline before launching her blast. Miano streaked in from the right dot to collect the rebound for the 2-0 lead with the power-play strike.
- 1st, 19:29 | 3-0, BC GOAL – Kali Flanagan jumped on a Friars' clearing pass in the neutral zone and skated into the PC end. She got a shot off that Myers saved and Erin Connolly's shot off the rebound was blocked when she crashed the net. Ryan Little was off to the side of the net and collected Connolly's long rebound, firing past Myers on an angle to put the Eagles up 3-0 with under a minute left in the period.
- 2nd, 8:28 | 4-0, BC GOAL (PPG) – Back on the power-play after killing back-to-back penalties, Keller broke the Eagles out of the zone and fed Anastos to lead the rush. Anastos skated in and cut to the right side, coming down the boards and around the back of the net. She sent a centering pass to Connolly untouched in the slot, who one-timed it home for the Eagles' second power-play goal of the game.
- 2nd, 13:52 | 5-0, BC GOAL – Flanagan came out of the zone and played Bridget McCarthy ahead on the left wing. McCarthy's shot was pushed aside by Myers, where Molly Slowe collected it and fed Flanagan streaming in from the point. Flanagan's rising wrister from the dot beat Myers and pushed the Eagles ahead by five.
- 2nd, 17:32 | 6-0, BC GOAL (PPG) – On the power play again, Anastos set up behind net and pushed a shot to Newkirk coming in off the boards. Her tight-angle shot was saved by Myers, but the rebound popped right out to the low slot where Connolly collected it and calmly banked it home for a 6-0 BC lead and the team's third power-play goal of the game.
- 3rd, 11:09 | 7-0, BC GOAL – Newkirk corralled Keller's pass deep in the Eagles' zone and sent a cross-ice outlet pass over to Belinskas along the bench-side boards. The freshman skated into the zone with Anastos trailing, and then threw the puck toward goal where Anastos re-directed it up over substitute goaltender Clare Minnerath, who entered at the start of the third period.
- 3rd, 17:15 | 8-0, BC GOAL – Serena Sommerfield broke up the Friar's clearance pass on the far boards and Newkirk picked up the loose puck, skating into the zone. Kate Annese trailed down the left wing, and then slotted home Newkirk's set-up on the 2-on-1 break to round out the Eagles' scoring.
GAME NOTES
- Boston College won its 15th straight game against Providence, a streak that started during the 2012-13 season
- The win improved the Eagles' all-time varsity record against the Friars to 30-35-3 and 15-16-1 at Schneider Arena … since the start of the Hockey East women's league in 2002-03, BC is now 25-17-3
- The Eagles' first goal of the game came just 24 seconds into the game, but yet isn't the fastest goal BC has scored this season … Haley McLean netted the team's first goal of the season just 17 seconds into the Eagles' first game at Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 30
- Boston College went 3-for-5 on the power-play, recording a trio of man-advantage goals for the third time this season … this was the eighth time in 17 games that BC notched at least two power-play goals in the game and also snapped BC's 0-for-12 rut on the power-play
- The Eagles were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill … the Eagles have now killed their opponents' last 22 man-advantage opportunities spanning the last five games
- Andie Anastos recorded her first four-point game of the season and the third of her career … it is the first four-point game since she scored her first-career hat trick and added an assist in the Eagles' 9-1 win at Providence on Feb. 20, 2016
- This is Anastos' second three-plus point game in the team's last four contests … this marks the first time in her career she's collected at least three points three times in a season … in each of her first three years at BC, the most three-plus point games she had was two
- Anastos pushed her career points total to 119 and is now just six points shy of reaching 10th place on the Eagles' career scoring chart and tying Laura Traynham '97 with 125 points
- Makenna Newkirk recorded a career-best four-assist game today … this was her sixth multiple-point game of the season and her third multiple-assist game of the year … she now has 69 career points, six shy of reaching the 75-point plateau
- Newkirk entered today's game with 11 three-point games – including three this season – before setting a new single-game best in both points (4) and assists (4)
- With the win today, Katie Burt recorded her 74th career victory, moving her into a tie for second place on the Eagles' career wins chart … she matched Corinne Boyles' career total … Burt is now six wins back of Molly Schaus' program-record 80 wins
- Burt's shutout was the 26th of her career – already the school record – and moves her into sole possession of eighth place on the NCAA career shutouts chart
- Toni Ann Miano her second career multiple-goal game, which was also her second multi-goal game against Providence … Miano netted a pair against the Friars last season on Feb. 19 in the team's 7-1 win at Kelley Rink
- Miano has three goals in the last two games after tallying the game-tying goal at No. 10 Northeastern last Saturday
- Erin Connolly had a career day, recording her first-ever three-point game and her first-career multiple-goal game … her two-goal, one-assist effort bested her previous game bests of single goals or single assists
- Megan Keller recorded her fourth multiple-point game of the season and her first since Nov. 11 … she pushed her career scoring total to 88 points and her career assist total to 71 … she is now three shy of tying for 10th on the Eagles' career assist chart, matching Deb Spillane '08 with 74
- Kali Flanagan netted her second multiple-point game of the season and her second in the last four games … her goal in the second period was her second in as many games
- After recording one assist through the Eagles' first 14 games, Delaney Belinskas has five assists in the last three games – including a pair of two-assist games in the team's last two contests
- Belinskas now has a five-game point streak intact – the team's longest active streak – in which she's netted nine points
- Ryan Little netted her third goal of the season in the first period … it was her first goal since her first-ever two-goal effort in the Eagles' 5-1 win over Connecticut on Oct. 29 … this was Little's second career goal against PC as her first career goal came against the Friars – in Schneider Arena – on Feb. 20, 2016
- Kate Annese scored her first-career goal when she converted Newkirk's pass on the 2-on-1 rush late in the third period
