Eagles’ freshman forward picks up second rookie of the week nod this season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman forward Delaney Belinskas earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honors on Monday after a standout performance in the Eagles' lone game last week.
In Boston College's 6-1 win at Dartmouth on Wednesday, Dec. 7, Belinskas scored two goals and added an assist. She opened the team's scoring in the first period and then capped the score line in the third period with a final goal with less than one minute to play. She also set up Andie Anastos' goal seconds into the second period.
The Port Orange, Fla., product tied Anastos and two other players for the conference's scoring lead last week, and tied for the conference's lead with a +4 rating. Despite playing a single game, she also tied as the nation's leading freshman scorer last week.
On the season, Belinskas has 20 points from 13 goals and seven assists. She leads all freshmen nationally in goals and ranks fifth among rookies in total points. Among all skaters nationally, Belinskas is tied for sixth in goals, tied for seventh in power-play goals (4) and tied for fifth in game-winning goals (3). In Hockey East play, she is tied for fourth in points (16) and tied for second in goals (10).
This is Belinskas' second conference rookie of the week award of the season. She also claimed the award on Oct. 10 following the team's series against Maine. Overall, this is Boston College's ninth weekly award this season.
Sixth-ranked Boston College (12-3-3, 10-2-1 HEA) is now in the midst of a four-week break for international play and the holidays and will return to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 4, when the teams hosts Syracuse at Kelley Rink at 4 p.m. The Eagles closed the first half of the season atop the Hockey East standings with a five-point lead and have a six-game undefeated streak (5-0-1) headed into the New Year.
