Eagles’ freshmen was the conference’s top first-year scorer last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College forward Caitrin Lonergan was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday by the conference.
Â
Just days after capturing the league's first Rookie of the Month honor for September/October, Lonergan led all Hockey East freshman in scoring last week during the Eagles' two-game series against arch-rival Boston University.
Â
On Friday at Kelley Rink, the Roslindale, Mass., product netted BC's first goal and assisted on the eventual game-tying goal in the third period of the Eagles' 5-3 win. Saturday at Walter Brown Arena, she set up BC's first goal and scored the team's final goal in the 5-3 loss.
The Eagles' rookie has led all Hockey East freshmen in scoring since the start of the season, and is now tied for first nationally in freshman scoring with 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists). Her eight goals are the most in the nation by a freshman and also lead the Eagles, while she is tied for eighth nationally overall in the category.
Lonergan has recorded at least one point in 10 of the Eagles' 12 games, including four multiple-point games. Lonergan's three power-play goals are tied for second-most in the NCAA and her eight power-play points are second-most in the country overall.
Â
With 10 points in Hockey East play so far this season, she is tied for the conference's scoring lead.
This is Lonergan's first Hockey East weekly honor of the season, and her second conference award overall after last week's October Rookie of the Month award.
Â
This is Boston College's fourth Hockey East weekly honor of the year, its second rookie of the week award and marks the third straight week a BC player has been recognized by the league. Freshman Delaney Belinskas earned BC's first weekly honor as the rookie of the week on Oct. 10, before goaltender Katie Burt was the player of the week on Oct. 24, followed by captain Andie Anastos' co-player of the week nod last week on Oct. 31.
The sixth-ranked women's hockey team returns to action this weekend when the Eagles play a home-and-home series against New Hampshire. BC will travel to Durham, N.H., at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, before the teams play the return game at Kelley Rink at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.
