Eagles Swept by Irish Wednesday Night

Boston College goes 0-2 in season series against new and improved Notre Dame.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Sol Calvete was the leader in kills for the Eagles, tallying six, while three different players - freshman Sophia West, sophomore McKenna Goss and freshman Jill Strockis - all recorded five.
- Senior Anna Skold led the Eagles with five total blocks, all on block assists.
- Libero Madisen Lydon dug out 16 attacks from the Irish, leading all players on the night.
- Both BC setters, Camille Oemcke and Jane DeJarld, posted 13 assists in the match.
- DeJarld lined up on the opposite side of the net from her older sister and Notre Dame libero Ryann DeJarld for the second time in her collegiate career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The match began with both teams testing each other out in the early going. The Irish made the first run, using an 8-2 stretch to build a 14-5 lead. Soon after, Notre Dame embarked on another run of 11-2 that carried them all the way to a first set victory, 25-8.
Set 2
The Eagles hung even with the Irish in the early going, but a 5-0 run by the Irish gave them a five-point lead at 10-5. BC got back within one on three separate occasions, but wouldn't get any closer as Notre Dame pulled away with three-straight points to lead, 17-13. Notre Dame led the rest of the way and won, 25-19.
Set 3
Julia Topor recorded a kill to tie the set at 7-7. From there, the Irish scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 17-9 lead. BC grabbed a few points back towards the end of the set, but the Notre Dame advantage was too much to overcome and it won, 25-17.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will close out the 2016 campaign in Louisville on Friday night, taking on the Cardinals at 7 p.m.
