Eagles begin action Feb. 10
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College, after contending for last year's NCAA Tournament, will officially open the 2017 softball schedule on Friday, Feb. 10, according to the schedule released today by head coach Ashley Obrest. | 2017 schedule

The Eagles, who finished 30-23 last season, will play a 56-game schedule this season which includes 24 ACC matches. BC went 12-9 in ACC play last year, finishing fourth in the conference.

BC begins its schedule with a five-game slate at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational. The Eagles will face five teams in three days in the series, opening against Wichita State at 10 a.m. Feb. 10. BC continues its slate in the five-game Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Arizona, who finished last season ranked 15th in the ESPN.COM/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.

Following 24 non-conference matches, BC begins ACC play March 10 against Virginia in a three-game road series. The Eagles return home March 28 against Central Connecticut at Shea Softball Field. That begins a five-game homestand that also features UMass Lowell (March 29) and Syracuse (March 31-April 2).

Outside of ACC play, the Eagles face several local opponents in April. The Eagles host Boston University on April 12, host UMass on April 19 and visit UMass on April 26. BC will host 17 games this season.

BC completes the regular season with a three-game series May 5-7 at Notre Dame, who finished last year ranked 25th nationally. The ACC Championship will be May 11-13 at Chapel Hill, N.C.

The ACC changed its scheduling format before the season. Three-game weekend series will comprise of a game on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. ACC weekend series in previous years included three games in two days, including a Saturday doubleheader.

With only three seniors on last year's team, BC returns plenty of talent as the team pursues its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003. Junior pitchers Jessica Dreswick and Allyson Frei return after both earning 2016 NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team honors, which the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced May. Four Eagles earned All-Region selections, the most in program history.
