Four Rookies Head to the Heights Next Season

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball head coach Chris Campbell announced on Monday afternoon the members of the Class of 2021, who will join the team in the fall of 2017 | Photo Gallery of the Class of 2021
Four players signed their National Letters of Intent and will make their way to Chestnut Hill for the 2017 season:
Amaka Chukwujekwu | MB/MH | 5'11" | Laurel, Md. | Firebird Volleyball Club
Amaka Jennifer Chukwujekwu ... played middle and outside for head coach Jamie Bullock at Reservoir High School and middle hitter for head coach John Crinion at Firebird … tallied the most blocks in the nation following her 2014 campaign … earned the Above the Net Award in 2014 as well as Second All-Country Team honors following her 2015 season … earned silver at the 2015 CHRVA regional championships and won the gold medal in 2016 … finished second in the 2016 AAU Grand Prix in Annapolis, Md. … member of the National Honor Society and a four-time recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award … hoping to pursue a career in the medical field.
Campbell on Chukwujekwu: "Amaka is a very dynamic and explosive player. Once she adjusts to the speed of the college game, her quickness and vertical jump will be a real asset to our program."
Alinda Dersjant | OH | 6'3" | Amersfoort, The Netherlands | Prima Donna Kaas Huizen
Played right side for coach Elroy Beremer at her club Prima Donna Kaas Huizen … participated in the Netherlands U18 National team under coach Saskia van Hinkum from 2013 to 2015 … won the Third Division championships in 2016 with Prima Donna Kaas Huizen, earning promotion to a higher league … currently enrolled in the Digital Design Program at the Technical University of Delft, participating in the Thesis for Imagine competition … planning on majoring in environmental studies in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences.
Campbell on Dersjant: "Alinda has the size and versatility to be a major contributor at an ACC level. She can play on both the left and the right, and at 6'3" she can affect the game on both offense and defense."
Ally Mullen | MB | 6'2" | Geneva, Ill. | Sports Performance Volleyball Club
Alexandria Grace Mullen … played middle blocker under head coach Annie Seitelman at Geneva in the Upstate 8 Conference … also played middle blocker for coaches Don-Joe Lei, Troy Gilb and Rick Butler at Sports Performance during her freshman, junior and senior years … earned All-Conference honors junior and senior years at Geneva … selected to All-Tournament teams at the St. Charles East Mizuno Cup and Lyons Township Tournament during her senior year … a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and the National Honor Society … intends to study biology in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences.
Campbell on Mullen: "Ally brings a great combination of skill and high level game IQ to BC. She has the speed and the size to compete with the best in the ACC."
Clare Naughton | OH | 6'1" | Atlanta, Ga. | Tsunami Volleyball Club
Clare Conway Naughton … played for head coach John Frederick at St. Pius X as an outside hitter … also played outside hitter for head coach Joseph Goodson in the 2017 season for Tsunami … named St. Pius' Outstanding Player of the Year in 2016 and earned honors as the team's Most Outstanding Offensive Player in 2015 … captained the St. Pius X squad during her senior year … led St. Pius in kills junior and senior years and in serve receive in her senior year … was an Under Armour All-American Honorable Mention in 2016 … All-State First Team in 2015 and 2016 … plans on being an international studies major in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences.
Campbell on Naughton: "Clare brings a great arm which will be able to score in the ACC. Her size will also allow her to block effectively."
