Northeast Fencing Conference Dual Meet
HOST: MIT
WHEN: Saturday, November 19, 2016
Fencing continued its hot start with both the men's and women's teams going undefeated at the first Northeast Fencing Conference meet. The teams streak includes wins against conference rivals Brown and Sacred Heart.
The most exciting contest of the day was the final match against Sacred Heart. The sabre fencers finished its third of the meet trailing Sacred Heart, 4-5, while epee took a, 7-2, lead. In the meantime, foil struggled, dropping its first five bouts, which put the overall team score at ,11-12. With only four bouts remaining, and needing to win at least three, freshman Brooke Solsky stepped into the breach, defeating her opponent, 5-2. When teammate Kayla Moy narrowly missed winning the next bout (4-5 loss), it was again up to Solsky to keep BC's hopes alive. She delivered a win (5-3) to put the match in senior Amanda Lewis' hands. With cool efficiency, Lewis defeated her opponent 5-0 to seal the win.
Solsky finished the day 14-3 overall. The top BC entree in women's epee was Jaime Bang (15-2) and in the sabre event it was Laura Donovan (19-2).
Zach Hammer went 12-1 in foil to lead the men's team. MacGregor Mooney had a solid day in epee with an 8-2 record while Connor Rounds went 10-0 in the sabre event.
