Obrest Announces Softball Class of 2021

CHESTNUT HILL. Mass. - Boston College softball head coach Ashley Obrest announced today the Eagles' incoming Class of 2021.

The five players who make up the class signed their National Letters of Intent and will arrive at The Heights in the fall to begin play with the Eagles in the spring of 2018.

Obrest's signing class includes:

RHP/1B CC Cook (Phoenix, Ariz.)
3B/1B Jenna Ergle (Sumiton, Ala.)
C/3B Emme Martinez (Hemet, Calif.)
1B/RF Gianna Randazza (Clark, N.J.)
1B/3B Cami Sellers (Los Alamitos, Calif.)

"Our focus for the 2017 class was to find pure power in our hitters and a gritty pitcher," Obrest said. "I feel like we accomplished that goal perfectly. CC Cook's presence and demeanor on the mound is exactly what we were looking for during the recruiting process. She attacks hitters in a dominating and quick fashion. Emme Martinez, Gianna Randazza, Cami Sellers and Jenna Ergle can all hit for power and, as I stated before, that was a must for our 2017 class.

"You can never 'replace' seniors but we feel very confident that these five young ladies will represent Boston College at the highest level and continue to build our program," Obrest added.

Cooke was named sectional player of the year and the PVUSD District MVP in 2016 ... a 2016 All-Arizona performer, a two-time all-state honoree (2016 first team, 2015 second team) and a two-time all-section honoree (2016 first team, 2015 second team) … led Pinnacle to its first-ever state championship game in 2016 ... in 2016 as a junior, led Division 1 with a 0.85 ERA and 237 strikeouts ... has played travel ball with the Hotshots Elite for Jason Shepherd for three seasons … helped Hotshots Elite place third at the PGF Nationals in 2016 ... Cierra (CC) is the daughter of Bill and Cathy Cook ... has an older sister Alex ... is a member of the National Honor Society and the Society of Women Scholars … will enroll in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences as a psychology major.

Birmingham Thunderbolts (Birmingham, Ala.) | Sumiton Christian School (Sumiton, Ala.)

Has played travel ball with the Thunderbolts for the past five seasons under Jeff Horton and Rock Thompson ... helped the Thunderbolts earn a third-place finish at the PGF national championship ... has played for Sumiton Christian School for the last four seasons … a two-time ASHAA Divisional Player of the Year (2014 in 1A and 2015 in 2A) and a three-time ASHAA Divisional Hitter of the Year (2014 in 1A and 2015 and 2016 in 2A) … a three-time first-team all-state performer and Alabama Super State honoree … has helped Sumiton Christian win back-to-back state championships (2015, 2016) … tabbed MaxPrep's 2014 national high school freshman softball player of the year … a two-time MaxPreps All-American: 2015 High School All-American and 2016 Small School All-American … set the nation RBI record as a freshman in 2014 (127) and led Alabama in RBIs each of the last three seasons … in 2016, participated in USA Softball's Select Elite program … the daughter of Ruby and Avery Ergle … has two older siblings: Jonathan and Brandi … Jonathan played football at Air Force (2008-12) and was the recipient of AFU's highest football honor, the Brian Bullard Memorial Award … also played basketball and volleyball … will enroll in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences as a sociology major.

Has played the last three travel seasons with the Corona Angels, mainly as a catcher … played her first two prep seasons at Rancho Alamitos HS in Garden Grove, Calif., before moving to West Valley HS in Hemet, Calif., as a junior … as a freshman and sophomore, played third base and earned All-Garden Grove League honors both seasons … was the 2014 Garden Grove Freshman of the Year and the 2015 conference MVP… as a junior, moved to left field at West Valley and earned offensive player of the year honors … the daughter of Chong Hong and Manuel Martinez … will enroll in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences with psychology and chemistry majors … also played basketball.

Gianna Randazza

New Jersey Intensity (Holmdel, N.J.) | Arthur L. Johnson HS (Clark, N.J.)

Played travel ball with New Jersey Intensity under head coach Kevin O'Donnell for the past four years … in prep ball, is a four-year starter at Arthur L. Johnson HS for head coach Mike Mancino and is a team captain … already a three-time all-county and all-conference honoree and picked up first-team all-state accolades as a junior in 2016 … as a junior, was the Union County League player of the year, and also tabbed to MaxPrep's Tri-State First Team … has helped ALJ win three straight conference championships, as well as the 2016 county championship and state sectional title … also plays volleyball and participates in track and field at ALJ … was the county shot put champion as a sophomore … is the daughter of Greg and Maria Randazza … has a younger sister, Nicole … her father Greg played baseball at Auburn and was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 1987 MLB draft … secretary of the French National Honors Society and is a HOBY Award winner ... will enroll in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences.

Ohana Tigers (Cerritos, Calif.) | Los Alamitos HS

Currently plays travel ball with Dave Shultz's Ohana Tigers after two seasons with the Corona Angels …has played prep ball at Los Alamitos HS for Rob Wiel … was a first-team All-Sunset League in 2015 and 2016 … helped Los Alamitos win the 2015 and 2016 Sunset League championships … is the daughter of Bonnie and Bob Sellers … has two siblings: Rachel and Jamie … earned the 2015 and 2016 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Award … also received the CIF Award in 2016 … will enroll in the Lynch School of Education.

The Eagles softball team just finished their fall ball tournament finishing at 6-1. They will open up their 2017 season in early February.
