Eagles’ senior captain shares weekly honor after break-out week on special teams
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior captain Andie Anastos was tabbed Warrior Hockey East co-Player of the Week on Monday after scoring four goals in the Eagles' two-game sweep of Connecticut last weekend.
The Farmington Hills, Mich., product led the conference in goals last week, and was tied for second overall in points (4). All of her goals came on special teams. She shared the honor with Providence's Brooke Boquist.
On Friday night in Storrs, Anastos scored all three of the Eagles' goals in the 3-0 win over UConn. Her three goals were all power-play goals, matching the NCAA single-game record. She's just the ninth player to achieve that feat.
On Saturday in the return game at Kelley Rink, Anastos capped BC's scoring with her first shorthanded goal in two years to push the final score to 5-1.
This is Anastos' first-ever Hockey East player of the week award and her fourth career weekly honor. As a freshman, she earned three Hockey East rookie of the week awards in 2013-14 – and three rookie of the month awards – on her way to 2014 Hockey East Rookie of the Year honors.
This is the Eagles' second-straight conference player of the week award after goaltender Katie Burt was honored last Monday. Overall, it's the team's third weekly honor of the season. Delaney Belinskas was the conference's rookie of the week on Oct. 10.
The fourth-ranked women's hockey team returns to action this weekend when the Eagles play a home-and-home series with Commonwealth Ave. rival Boston University. BC will host the first game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, before the teams play the return game at BU's Walter Brown Arena at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
