Blue Devils Top Eagles in Four

BC won the first set in comeback fashion, but couldn't get anything going afterwards and fell to Duke on Friday evening.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Jill Strockis was impressive again for BC, notching a double-double in kills (12) and digs (18). Her 18 digs were a match-high.
- Senior Julia Topor joined Strockis at the top of the Eagles' statline in kills, racking up 12 of her own. She added on 5 digs and 1 block.
- Freshman Cat Balido had another solid showing for BC, hitting for .250 and grabbing 10 kills in the process. Senior Madisen Lydon added 16 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Blue Devils won four straight to take an early 6-4 lead. BC countered with a 5-0 run of its own to grab a 9-6 lead, but Duke fought back with the next three points to draw even at nine. The set remained even until Duke forced a BC timeout by pulling ahead 22-15. The Maroon and Gold mounted a rally by winning 7 straight to tie the set at 22, then fended off two set points, grabbing set point and forcing Duke to call timeout. The Eagles closed it off winning three straight to win, 26-24.
Set 2
Duke used a 7-2 run to break a 4-4 tie and take an 11-6 lead, then forced a BC timeout at 14-7. The ultimate 10-0 Blue Devil run was enough for Duke to even the match at one all by winning the set 25-8.
Set 3
The Eagles took the early lead, 7-3, and extended the lead to five at 14-9, forcing the Blue Devils to call timeout. Duke fought back with a 5-0 run to get within one at 15-14, then tied the set at 17 all. The Blue Devils grabbed a 20-17 lead but BC drew even again at 20. The Eagles couldn't capitalize and Duke won the set 25-23.
Set 4
The Blue Devils opened the set winning the first four points, then extended the lead to 7-1, forcing the Eagles to call timeout. Duke led by as much as seven at 18-11, but the closest the Eagles could get was within four at 18-14. The Blue Devils sailed to the end for a 25-15 victory.
