Eagles’ junior goaltender named league’s top player last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior goaltender Katie Burt was tabbed Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday after a pair of standout performances in the Eagles' series win against No. 3 Quinnipiac last weekend.
The Lynn, Mass., product allowed just a single goal in two games, and posted her first shutout of the season while leading the Eagles to a 1-0-1 mark against the third-ranked Bobcats in the home-and-home series.
On Friday night, Burt recorded 23 saves en route to her first shutout of the year - and 24th of her career - while backing the Eagles to a 0-0 overtime tie against Quinnipiac at Kelley Rink. The shutout moved her into a tie for 11th place on the NCAA career shutout chart.
Saturday in Hamden, Conn., Burt made 17 saves and held the Bobcats to a single goal as the Eagles' took the 4-1 victory on the road.
In total on the weekend, she registered an 0.48 goals against average, a .976 save percentage and was in goal for all but two seconds of the Eagles' 125 minutes of play.
This is Burt's first-ever Hockey East player of the week award, and her 10th career conference weekly honor in a haul also that includes six defensive player of the week nods and three rookie of the week awards. This is the Eagles' second league weekly honor of the year after Delaney Belinskas was the conference's rookie of the week on Oct. 10.
The fourth-ranked women's hockey team returns to action this weekend when the Eagles play a home-and-home series with Connecticut. BC will travel to Storrs, Conn., for a 7 p.m. faceoff on Friday, Oct. 28, before the teams play the return game at Kelley Rink at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.
