Haverhals Claims ACC Weekly Honors

Eagles' sophomore center back tabbed co-defensive player of the week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College field hockey sophomore Frederique Haverhals has been named ACC co-Defensive Player of the Week after her performances in the Eagles' road wins over then-No. 8 Louisville and Indiana last weekend.
Â
The center back was instrumental in BC's two-game road sweep, playing all 140 minutes of action as the Eagles allowed a single goal away from home.
Â
On Friday, the sophomore from Warmond, Netherlands, scored the game-winning goal when she knocked in the rebound of Emily McCoy's shot off the penalty corner. She also backed the defensive unit that held Louisville to just 10 shots – well below their 17.9 per game average headed into the game.Â
Â
On Sunday, Haverhals and the defense held Indiana to just four shots, more than 10 below their season average of 14.6 coming into the game. The 2-0 win was just the second shutout of the season for the Eagles and their first since Aug. 26.
Â
This is Haverhals' first ACC weekly honor and the Eagles' second conference player of the week nod of the season. Fellow back Chelcie Mendonca was the ACC co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 20, and went on to capture NFHCA national defensive player of the week honors the next day.
Â
This marks just the third time that BC has earned multiple field hockey conference players of the week in a single season since joining the ACC in 2005. It also happened in 2005 (Bob Dirks on Sept. 26 and Crystal Frates on Oct. 24) and 2014 (Eryn McCoy on Oct. 21 and Emily McCoy on Oct. 28).
Â
The 13th-ranked Eagles return home this weekend for a pair of games at the Newton Campus Field Hockey Complex. On Friday, BC (6-6, 2-3 ACC) hosts New Hampshire (3-9, 1-3 America East) at 6 p.m. On Sunday, the Eagles will welcome No. 14 Boston University (8-4, 2-1 Patriot League) at 1 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
