Eagles Return Westphal and Other Key Upperclassmen
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.— The women's track and field team will continue their 2016 winter campaign as the No. 24 team in the nation. The USTFCCCA announced its annual preseason rankings yesterday. Boston College is one of six ACC schools included in the first women's Top 25 of the year. NC State is the highest ranked of the six at No. 15.
The Eagles rank No. 24Â after finishing the 2014-15 indoor season unranked. However, the return of key upperclassmen as well as the addition of a very talented freshman class has bolstered the team to an elite level in the preseason rankings. Senior Liv Westphal returns for her final indoor season for the Eagles, having already assembled a tremendous resume.
Westphal ran arguably her best season last winter, setting personal records in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, her most prolific events. Westphal competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships and earned All-America honors. BC also looks forward to strong seasons from seniors Carly Daniel and Laura Hottenrott, as well as juniors Robin Gross and Claudia DiSomma.
The Eagles return from winter break with the "Sorlein" Co-Ed Invitational at the University of Rhode Island on Jan. 15.Â
