HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook Game
Set One:
After getting out to an early 3-0 start in the first, the Boston College Eagles never looked back as the Maroon and Gold were able to hold the lead the entire set, expanding it to as much as three points several times in a close battle between Stony Brook and the Eagles. As the set neared completion, the Seawolves brought the set score within one at 22-21 following a BC attack error, but they were not able to capitalize. Back-to-back kills by Brittany Pavich and Julia Topor closed out SBU in the first set.
Set Two:
Boston College once again got out to a 3-0 start in the second set, courtesy of two attack errors on behalf of Stony Brook and a service ace from senior setter Mallori Moffat. The Seawolves came back to tie it at 10 apiece before taking their first lead of the afternoon, which extended to as much as 16-13. Boston College regained lead with Julia Topor's two straight kills and an attack error committed by Stony Brook, which forced them to take a timeout. The lady Eagles would fire off five straight points, taking a 21-16 lead and going on to win the set 25-21.
Set Three:
In the third set, Boston College and Stony Brook exchanged the lead four times in addition to being tied 11 different times, the most tie scores in any of the three sets. After trailing the majority of the set, the Eagles came back to tie it at 22 all in the third frame. Two faulty attacks from Stony Brook gave BC a two point lead and a kill from Katty Workman, one of her 16 on the afternoon, halted any further hopes from Stony Brook in the matchup as the Eagles completed the sweep three sets to nothing.

Fairfield Game
Set One:
In the first set of the evening match against host Fairfield, the Eagles took a commanding lead following a 6-6 tie early in the contest. In a span of four Katty Workman serves, the Stags recorded three attack errors and BC was able to jump out to a 10-6 lead. The Maroon and Gold expanded their lead to as much as seven points, and finished by that margin with a Kam McLain kill. The Eagles took the first set 25-18.
Set Two:
The Eagles dropped their first set of the day in the second set of the evening match as they failed to maintain an early 7-2 lead. The Stags fought back from an early deficit and were able to tie it at 14 all before claiming their first lead of the game. The set was once again back and forth and saw another tied score at 19 before Fairfield pulled away to take the third set 25-22.
Set Three:
In the third set, there were three tied scores and another two lead changes, particularly early in the set. With the score 11-7, Workman tallied two straight kills before Topor and Sol Calvete each got in on the scoring action, finishing the set on a 14-7 run to help propel BC to the victory.
Set Four:
After trailing early, Chris Campbell's squad fought back to tie the game at 16-16, the first even score of the set. An attack error by Fairfield's Oyinkansola Akinola and a kill from Kam McLain put the Eagles up by two, also their first lead of the game, but the lead could not be kept as the Stags fought back to force a decisive fifth set.
Set Five:
Fairfield dominated most of the set as they jumped to an early 10-3 lead in front of their home crowd and never looked back, giving Boston College their first loss of the season.
COACH QUOTES
After Stony Brook Game:
"We didn't play our best, but we kept our composure throughout the match and managed to pull out the win. I'm proud of the girls for their focus, but we've got to be better prepared at the start of the match-no one is going to give us the win for free."
After Fairfield Game:
"Our mistakes caught up with us tonight. Fairfield fought hard and took advantage of the free points we gave them. We'll need to do a better job of holding ourselves accountable tomorrow against Marshall."
