Eagles Look For Third Straight At Virginia Tech

BC LOOKS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT AT VIRGINIA TECH
• Boston College travels to Virginia Tech on Friday night for a 7 p.m. ACC tilt that will be aired on ESPN3.
• The Eagles are 9-1-2 all-time against the Hokies with the lone Virginia Tech win coming in 2003. BC is 8-0-2 in the last 10 meetings between the two sides and has a 27-14 edge in goals all-time.
• The teams last met in 2013 with Boston College earning a 3-1 win in Newton.
• The Eagles have won their last two matches with wins over Pittsburgh and Connecticut.
• Virginia Tech is 2-0-1 in its last three with wins over VMI and Delaware. It earned a 1-1 draw at Louisville last weekend.
STRONG FIRST HALF LIFTS BC OVER UCONN
• Junior Zeiko Lewis set career highs with two goals and five points to lead Boston College to a 3-1 win against Connecticut on Tuesday night.
• Lewis played a hand in all three Boston College goals. He scored in the seventh and 31st minutes.
• Freshman Trevor Davock added the other BC goal in the 26th minute which proved to be the game-winner. He leads the Eagles with four goals and three game-winners.
• Lewis and sophomore Len Zeugner assisted on Davock's strike. It was Zeugner's first career assist.
• Senior Atobra Ampadu was credited with the assist on Lewis' second goal.
• Head Coach Ed Kelly recorded his 296th career win. He would become the 19th active head coach and the third in the ACC to reach 300 wins.
• Lewis got going early as a poor pass on the UConn back line freed up his run in the seventh minute. He got to the ball first and broke outside to the left, got around the keeper and found the open net for the first goal.
• After each side had a good look at goal, BC struck again in the 26th to make it 2-0. Sophomore Henry Balf sent a ball to the far post after a UConn foul. Zeugner got a head to it and found Lewis outside the box. He sent a short pass to Davock who turned and fired for the score.
• Lewis struck again in the 31st minute when Ampadu sent a long ball up from the BC back line. Lewis snuck behind the Huskies' defense, held off a defender and beat the oncoming keeper to make it a 3-0 game.
• UConn responded with more intensity in the second half and put up a goal in the 64th minute. Jake Nerwinksi started the attack and found Fredrik Jonsson in front of him. Jonsson looked left to find Alex Sanchez, who sent a blast from 20 yards out that found the back of the net.
• BC held a 13-9 advantage in shots in the match. UConn had a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
LAST TIME vs. VIRGINIA TECH
• Derrick Boateng scored a pair of goals to lead Boston College to a 3-1 win against Virginia Tech on November 2, 2013 at the Newton Campus Field.
• Zeiko Lewis scored the equalizer and assisted on the third goal. Matt Wendelken and Atobra Ampadu were also credited with assists in the match.
• The Hokies controlled the first half of play and owned a 5-1 advantage in shots. They had two quality chances in the early going with the first coming 10 minutes after kickoff. Kai Marshall started a run when he found Daniel Lauretano in the midfield. He dished to his right and found Drew Ranahan who put a shot on target. Alex Kapp made a diving stop to his right and did not allow a rebound.
• Five minutes later, a Boston College foul gave Virginia Tech a great chance right outside the box. David Clemens took the free kick, but it sailed wide of the top right corner he was aiming for. The BC defense held on during a couple of dangerous corners later in the half to keep the Hokies off the board in the first 45.
• Virginia Tech finally broke through in the 55th minute. Clemens made a nice run down the left side of the pitch and then passed into the box to Ranahan. Kapp came off his line and collided with Ranahan, and the official rewarded Virginia Tech with a penalty kick. Clemens connected on that to give the Hokies the lead.
• Boston College took over from there. Boateng created a chance with a nice run up the middle. He fired a shot that was blocked by a defender and had to be saved by the Hokie keeper. Ampadu quickly took the ensuing corner and passed to Lewis in front of him. Lewis found a lane to shoot and notched the equalizer in the 69th minute.
• Boateng scored the game-winner seven minutes later when he received a pass from Wendelken on the left side. Boateng shot from an awkward angle and blasted the ball above the keeper's head for his first goal.
• Boateng scored again in the 82nd minute to add some insurance. Lewis assisted on that strike. The Eagles kept coming at Virginia Tech and forced Kyle Renfro to make a few more saves before the match reached full time.
• Renfro made seven saves for the Hokies while Kapp was credited with five.
THE GREEN TEAM
• Boston College sports 12 freshmen on its 2015 roster, the most of any team in the ACC.
• North Carolina and Pittsburgh have 11 freshmen on their squads while NC State and Syracuse have 10.
• Through seven games this season, eight of the 12 freshmen have seen time on the pitch.
• Freshman Trevor Davock leads the team with four goals, 10 points and three game-winning goals. He also has two assists. He has three goals and an assist in the last three matches.
• Simon Enstrom ranks second on the team in goals (3) and assists (2), and third in points (8). He also leads the team with 17 shots.
• Freshman Joshua Forbes has also recorded an assist.
• 26 of BC's 41 points - 63 percent - have come from freshmen and sophomores.

LEWIS MATCHES 2014 TOTALS
• Junior Zeiko Lewis has recorded three goals and three assists for nine points, which already equals his output from last season.
• Six of his nine points have come in the last three matches, including a two goal, one assist performance against Connecticut on Tuesday night. Those five points were a career high.
• He ranks fifth in the ACC in assists (3), seventh in points (9) and 10th in goals (3).
• Lewis has been a crucial part of the BC offense the last three seasons. His 17 career assists rank ninth all-time at Boston College.

ENSTROM EMERGES
• Freshman Simon Enstrom scored seven of his eight points in two matches against Boston University and #23 SMU.
• He scored twice in Boston College's 3-2 win at BU on August 31. He scored in the 16th minute and notched the game-winner to break a 2-2 tie in the 80th minute.
• He then recorded a goal and an assist in the Eagles' 4-2 upset win over #23 SMU.
• Enstrom ranks 10th in the ACC in goals (3) and 11th in points (8).
AMPADU'S TWO GOALS
• Senior Atobra Ampadu got his first start of the season against #23 SMU and made it count.
• He scored the Eagles' first two goals just 25 seconds apart to give BC a 2-1 lead in the 24th minute. It was his first two-goal game at Boston College.
• After the Mustangs scored the match's first goal in the 13th minute, Ampadu equalized the match 10 minutes later. He took a pass from freshman Simon Enstrom and sent a cross near the goal line from the right side. The keeper got to it, but deflected it into the back of his own net to make it 1-1.
• Just 25 seconds later, Ampadu had a brilliant strike from more than 30 yards away that beat the diving keeper to give BC a 2-1 lead.
KELLY APPROACHING 300 WINS
• Head coach Ed Kelly has a career record of 296-215-60 in his 31st year of coaching collegiate soccer. His record at BC is 256-202-54 in his 28th season.
• Kelly would become the 19th active coach and the third in the ACC with 300 career coaching victories.
• He currently ranks 45th all-time in coaching wins with 296.
