CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College, the defending Hockey East regular-season champion, will officially open the 2015-16 women’s hockey season on Saturday, Oct. 2, when the Eagles host Minnesota-Duluth in the first of a two-game series at Kelley Rink.
After an exhibition match against the University of Guelph on Friday, Sept. 25 at Boston's Walter Brown Arena, the Eagles will play a 34-game regular-season schedule that includes 24 Hockey East conference matches and 10 non-conference games.
“We’re looking forward to this season,” Boston College head coach Katie Crowley said. “Hockey East keeps getting more and more competitive and every season is an increased challenge. To prepare for conference play, we’ve scheduled some strong opponents for two-game series, including Minnesota-Duluth, St. Lawrence and Cornell, all who were ranked in the top 10 last year.”
In non-Hockey East action, BC hosts Minnesota-Duluth twice on Oct. 2 and 3, St. Lawrence twice (Oct. 11-12) and travels to Cornell for two games (Oct. 23-24), and also faces Syracuse (Dec. 10) and Harvard (Jan. 19) for one apiece away from home.
Additionally, the Eagles will open the 2016 Beanpot against Harvard on Feb. 2, in a game that will be played at Boston University.
Boston College kicks off its Hockey East conference schedule with back-to-back home games against Maine on Saturday, Oct. 17, and New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 18.
BC will play 10 of its 15 home games before Dec. 1, and 10 road games after Dec. 1.
The Eagles return 17 players from the 2014-15 squad that posted a school-record 34 wins and advanced to their fifth Frozen Four in program history. Crowley has added seven freshmen to the team for the 2015-16 season.
The BC roster includes four players who helped the U.S. win the gold medal at the 2015 IIHF World Championships (forward Alex Carpenter, defenseman Megan Keller, forward Haley Skarupa and forward Dana Trivigno) and two players who helped the U.S. Under-18 team win the gold medal at the 2015 IIHF Under-18 World Championship (goaltender Katie Burt and defenseman Grace Bizal).
