CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Twelve non-conference games, including the Florida College Hockey Classic and the 64th annual Beanpot Tournament – a strong home schedule that includes a home opener against Wisconsin, Michigan State, Denver, RIT, Boston University and national champion Providence, as well as five tilts against opponents from last year's NCAA Championship and a 22-game Hockey East docket, represent the 2015-16 Boston College men's hockey schedule.
As of the date of this release, a television schedule has not been announced yet but will be revealed once details are finalized.
“Really looking forward to play a number of great programs across the country,” head coach Jerry York said. “I think it's always great when Hockey East does battle with the Big Ten as we'll be taking on the likes of Wisconsin in our home opener followed by games against Michigan State and Ohio State. Out of the National College Hockey Conference, we're excited to reunite with Denver again and take a trip out to Colorado College. We'll also be taking on some of the best of the ECAC and Atlantic in Harvard, Cornell, RPI, Army and RIT. I always like when the non-conference schedule exposes us to the different leagues and different styles of play.”
The Eagles open up the 2015-16 season on the road in New York when they make appearances at West Point and Troy, respectively. Boston College drops the puck at Army to start the season on Friday, Oct. 9, and will stay in the region and make the short drive to Rensselaer for a Sunday affair on Oct. 11.
Boston College will welcome in Wisconsin for BC's home opener on Friday, Oct. 16, marking the only affair of that weekend. Following that Big Ten clash, the Eagles will fly west for a pair in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24. Boston College started the season at home against Colorado College last year and will return the favor for a pair at World Arena.
The state of Colorado will maintain its presence on BC's schedule when Denver skates into Kelley Rink for a Friday night tilt on Oct. 30. Due to a football game against Virginia Tech on Halloween, the Eagles will push what would have been a Saturday night contest against Massachusetts for the Hockey East opener to Tuesday night, Nov. 3, at Conte Forum.
League play continues in the first weekend of November when Maine rolls into Chestnut Hill for a Friday – Sunday series on Nov. 6-8.
Last year, Boston College trekked to East Lansing, Mich., but this season, Michigan State returns for a Friday night tilt on Nov. 13 in a game that will stand alone that weekend.
On Saturday, Nov. 21, Boston College heads north for a contest at New Hampshire before the Eagles look to avenge a loss at Connecticut from last year on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Like every Thanksgiving weekend, the Eagles will be hosting a home contest and this year, Rochester Institute of Technology is on the docket. Boston College topped RIT last season, 6-2, in Rochester, N.Y., and looks to continue that trend on Saturday, Nov. 28.
BC keeps it local when it hosts Northeastern on Saturday, Dec. 5, before a cross-town jaunt to Matthews Arena on Sunday, Dec. 6, to run it back against the Huskies.
Before the Eagles set off for a warm holiday, Boston College will welcome in Notre Dame for the first time in over a year on a Thursday evening, Dec. 10. This season's holiday trip pits the Eagles against its third Big Ten foe, Ohio State, as part of the Florida College Hockey Classic at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. Boston College collides with the Buckeyes on Monday, Dec. 28, before taking on either Providence or Cornell the following day, Dec. 29. Boston College won the Florida College Hockey Classic in its only appearance in 2004. The Eagles have not met up with Ohio State since the 2002-03 season.
If Boston College skated against the Friars on Dec. 29, it would be the first of a three-game series as the Eagles return to The Heights on Friday, Jan. 8, to take on Providence before a short drive to Schneider Arena on Saturday, Jan. 9.
Upon conclusion of that skirmish with the defending national champs, the Battle of Comm Ave. is on deck for the Eagles the following weekend. Boston University, who skated against PC in the 2015 national title game, will take the green line down to Kelley Rink on Friday night, Jan. 15, before BC and BU tangle in the 269th installment on Saturday night, Jan. 16, at Agganis Arena.
Boston College will close out its regular season series at UMass on Friday, Jan. 22, and return home to do the same against Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 23.
Before the 64th Beanpot Tournament gets underway, the Eagles will fly out to South Bend Friday, Jan. 29, for the cap of the regular season series against the Irish.
The first Monday of February in Boston means it's the Beanpot Tournament and the Eagles look to avenge their streak of five-straight trophies snapped. BC will meet Harvard in the first round on Feb. 1 and close out the Beanpot the following Monday, Feb. 8, against either Boston University of Northeastern. In between the Beanpot, BC caps its season series against New Hampshire at Kelley Rink on Friday, Feb. 5.
The first meeting with Merrimack will occur at Conte Forum on Friday, Feb. 12, before the Warriors welcome Boston College the following night, Feb. 13.
The Eagles make their return to Gutterson Arena for a pair at Vermont on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20 prior to a regular season series finale against UMass Lowell. The River Hawks will make their way to Chestnut Hill on Friday, Feb. 26 before BC caps the regular season in Lowell on Saturday, Feb. 27.
