BC OPENS ACC PLAY AT NC STATE
• Boston College will open the conference portion of its schedule when it travels to NC State on Friday night for a 7 p.m. match that will be aired on ESPN3.
• The two teams played to a scoreless draw last season at Harvard’s Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium. The Eagles have won two of the last three outings against NC State.
• BC opened the season going 3-1-0 in non-conference matches. Its most recent result was a 1-0 loss to Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon.
• NC State also went 3-1-0 and won its first three games. It suffered its first loss at Davidson on Monday, 2-1.
BC FALLS TO LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
• Loyola Marymount handed Boston College its first loss with a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
• The Lions’ goal came just 1:02 after the opening whistle and it was able to hold on for the win. LMU goalkeeper Paul Blanchette punted a ball all the way down to the other box. The ball took a bounce and Grant Sampson lifted a shot over the keeper to provide the lone goal of the match.
• Neither side had a great scoring chance in the rest of the first half. The Lions held a 9-5 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corners in the first 45.
• Boston College turned it around after halftime and fired off nine shots to LMU’s three. It also took four corners while the Lions didn’t have one.
• One notable chance was with 30 minutes left when junior Zeiko Lewis got open and fired a shot that was blocked. The deflection went to senior Atobra Ampadu who took another shot, but that too was broken up by a defender.
• With 17:30 remaining, freshman Derek Lyons fed classmate Simon Enstrom who turned and found a lane open to shoot. His low blast was just wide of the left post.
LAST TIME vs. NC STATE
• Boston College and NC State played a double overtime scoreless draw on October 10, 2014 at Harvard’s Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium.
• Both teams took 11 shots in the 110 minutes and both sides had four shots on goal. Boston College hit the crossbar twice, once in each half of regulation. Alex Kapp and NC State’s Alex McCauley were both credited with four saves. All of Kapp’s came in the first half.
• Boston College controlled the pace for most of the first 45 but it was NC State that notched four shots on goal. Each side had five shots.
• Isaac Normesinu registered the first true chance 18 minutes in when he made a nifty move in between two defenders near midfield. He dribbled up to 25 yards and then blasted a shot that beat the keeper, but it hit the bottom of the crossbar and stayed out.
• He had another good opportunity five minutes later on a scramble in the box. The ball bounced right to him when he was 15 yards out and he turned to fire, but his shot was right at McCauley.
• NC State’s best chance came at the 17 minute mark when Nick Surkamp received a cross on the left side of the box. Kapp came off his line to make the save, but the ball was loose at the far post. BC was able to clear the danger after a brief scare.
• The Eagles nearly struck again two minutes into the second half. Normesinu controlled the ball near the end line on the right side of the box. He found Henry Balf with a pass and he put a shot toward goal that hit the crossbar and went out of play.
• Reed Norton had a look for the Wolfpack with 10 minutes left in regulation. He fired a low shot but Mohammed Moro went to the ground to deflect the ball over the net.
• Both teams took one shot in the second overtime period. Nick Butler saw his first action in overtime and caused some trouble for NC State. In the first overtime, Zeiko Lewis sent a nice through ball into the box to the streaking Butler, but he couldn’t quite get a handle to take a shot.
• In the second overtime, Cole DeNormandie brought the ball deep into the right side. He handed off to Butler who took a shot at a tough angle, but McCauley made the save to keep it scoreless.
THE GREEN TEAM
• Boston College sports 12 freshmen on its 2015 roster, the most of any team in the ACC.
• North Carolina and Pittsburgh have 11 freshmen on their squads while NC State and Syracuse have 10.
• Through four games this season, eight of the 12 freshmen have seen time on the pitch.
• Freshman Simon Enstrom leads the team with three goals and seven points while classmate Trevor Davock has a goal and an assist. Davock scored the lone goal in the season-opening 1-0 win against Quinnipiac.

• He then recorded a goal and an assist in the Eagles’ 4-2 upset win over #23 SMU.
AMPADU’S TWO GOALS
• Senior Atobra Ampadu got his first start of the season against #23 SMU and made it count.
• He scored the Eagles’ first two goals just 25 seconds apart to give BC a 2-1 lead in the 24th minute. It was his first two-goal game at Boston College.
• After the Mustangs scored the match’s first goal in the 13th minute, Ampadu equalized the match 10 minutes later. He took a pass from freshman Simon Enstrom and sent a cross near the goal line from the right side. The keeper got to it, but deflected it into the back of his own net to make it 1-1.
• Just 25 seconds later, Ampadu had a brilliant strike from more than 30 yards away that beat the diving keeper to give BC a 2-1 lead.
