August 07, 2015 | Volleyball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – North Carolina edged Florida State by one point – the difference between one first place vote – in the ACC preseason volleyball poll as voted on by the conference’s 15 coaches. Boston College, which is coming off its best season in the ACC since 2007, was selected to finish 14th.
The Tar Heels collected 190 points and eight first-place votes, while the Seminoles claimed 189 points and seven first-place votes. Duke, Miami, Louisville, Virginia, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech rounded out the top 10. Syracuse was 11th, followed by NC State, Clemson, BC and Wake Forest.
Eagles head coach Chris Campbell returns 10 letterwinners from his 2014 squad that went 6-12 in league play. The squad’s six conference wins was the most since the team posted eight – going 8-14 – in 2007. Since then, BC recorded more than two ACC wins just twice.
While Boston College was not represented on the preseason All-ACC Team, senior Katty Workman is poised to become the Eagles’ all-time leader in kills, kills per set and attacks before her career ends. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., product enters 2015 with 1,258 kills – 191 shy of the school record held by Kelsey Johnson ’08. Workman is currently the school’s leader in career kills per set with a 3.77 per set mark, 0.30 more than Johnson’s second-place mark of 3.47.
Additionally, Workman has recorded 3.402 attacks, good for sixth place on the school’s career chart and 526 behind Johnson’s record of 3,928.
