Calvete, Moffat and Workman to lead BC in 2015
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball program has selected Mallori Moffat, Sol Calvete and Katty Workman to serve as its captains for the 2015 season, as announced recently by head coach Chris Campbell.
The trio brings experience and leadership to a program that in 2014 went 11-18 overall, including 6-12 in the ACC, the most conference wins for Campbell in his five years of coaching at Boston College.
Mallori Moffat, a senior setter from Stuart Florida, transferred from Eastern Kentucky University prior to the 2014 season and quickly made an impact for the Maroon and Gold. In her first season at the Heights, she saw action in 60 sets over 27 matches and recorded 144 assists and 42 digs in that span.
In 2015, Katty Workman will serve her second season as team captain after tallying 408 kills and 14 double-doubles in 2014. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native enters her senior season ranked first in the BC record books in both career double-doubles (41) and career kills per set (3.79). The outside hitter has a career 1,258 kills to her resume, just 191 shy of the Boston College record.
Joining Moffat and Workman this season as captains will be sophomore outside hitter Sol Calvete. The 6-foot-1 native of Buenos Aires, Argentina played in all 27 matches last season, recording 228 kills, 26 service aces and 307 digs, the second most digs among the 2014 squad. Calvete also led the Eagles with 15 solo-blocks in the 2014 season.
The Eagles begin their 2015 campaign when they host the Boston College Invitational Tournament August 29-30. Their first game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday evening when the Eagles take on South Alabama.
