Eagles In Italy - Modena & San Marino In One Day
August 20, 2015 | Women's Basketball
San Marino, Italy -
The first stop on Thursday was at the Dal Molin US Militar Base in Vicenza. The team stopped, met with those visiting the commissary and took some photo ops.
A two hour ride was in store as the team hopped on the bus ready to roll – on to Modena to visit the Ferrari Museum.
Our guide, Elena, has been giving everyone a ten minute Italian lesson every morning we set out. The group seems to have Grazie (Thank you), Adiamo (Let’s go), Ciao (Hello), Prego (You're welcome), Quanto Costa (How much?), and the numbers from 1-to-30 memorized. Sometimes Romano will slip in a little slang for the crew, which has added a little flavor to the Italian lessons.
After a quick stop at the Auto Grill – an Italian rest stop the team loaded up on coffee and chocolate. An hour later, the Ferrari Museum was the next stop.
The team toured the museum in a guided tour. Pictures were allowed but onlookers were not allowed to touch the cars. A young girl walked the team through them museum explaining the significance of each car. One of the cars in the museum was a 1968 Innocenti F128/186 GT – it is the only one that exists in the world. To top the day off, Coach Yvonne Hawkins drove a Ferrari at the end of the tour. As the team was leaving and waiting in front of the museum, Coach Hawk with Coach Faulkner in the back seat came driving by to show the girls how much fun she was having.
A two hour bus ride was in store for the team as the next stop was San Marino, the home of our guide Elena. The team met in the hotel lobby at 7:30 p.m. and took a small train (like something you would see at Disney or Story Land) to a restaurant on the mountain. It was perfect timing as the ride provided the girls with spectacular views of the city below with the sun going down. It was by far one of the most stunning scenes we have witnessed on the trip.
Of course you all know that it’s always three courses in Italy. The first course was pasta with a red sauce and boar meat followed by a salad, with turkey, and a drizzle of a lemon dressing. A blueberry flan was served as dessert but most of the team and travel party headed outside on the street for some gelato.
Boston College will play their final game in Italy at 8:30 p.m. against the Adriactic Sea Sirens. The tour group will begin the day at 10 a.m. and head back up the mountain for a walking tour in San Marino. Elena is giving the travel party enough time to tour the castles and shop in all the little side streets along the mountain top.
