August 11, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Kailey Edwards enters her second season on the BC women’s basketball team. Edwards, a red-shirt junior, transferred to BC from Denver in the summer of 2014. She has two more years of eligibility. The 5-foot-9 guard/forward who is a native of Broomfield, Colorado, averaged 11.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 63 career games for the Pioneers.
What was your first full summer at Boston College like with your new teammates?
Last summer I was very nervous about coming in and spending time with my new teammates. It was different than coming in as a freshman because when you are a in your first season and there are at least other freshman that you can bond with. I was in a weird spot being the same age as the older girls but a newbie to everything with the freshman. All in all, it worked out great and allowed me to become close with everyone on the team.
Explain your game to those BC fans that have not seen you on the court:
I would say I am a hustle player who is really looking to help the team in whatever possible way I can. Specifically running the floor and defense are my strengths. I am someone who likes to focus on the little things and do the dirty work. It is what I pride myself on.
After watching last season, what will you add to the team this season on the court:
I think I will add a transition game that can open up things for others on the team as well. Also, I think I add a defensive aspect and a strong voice on the team.
Did you focus on improving one area of your game while you sat last season:
Yes, I worked hard on improving my handle and footwork. It was a lot of work in the summer and time while the team was gone. But now I have a lot more confidence in those areas.
What is your mindset going into this season?
My mindset is making the team better on and off the court. By this I mean being a positive link or the glue that holds everyone together. We have a lot of team goals this season and it is going to take everyone doing their part to achieve those goals.
What is the teams’ mindset, with three new players arriving?
Utilizing everyone's strengths and becoming closer as a team to allow us to thrive on the court. We all come from unique backgrounds but we are meshing on and off the court.
What attracted you to Boston College?
The ACC and academics were definitely what I was focusing on, but the team was the biggest part. After my visit, I knew it was the right move for me. The team and I got along great and they welcomed me with open arms.
Coming from Colorado, has it been tough adjusting to the east coast and Boston College (academically, athletically and weather-wise)?
Academically it was challenging because the business school is tough here. On the court it is a higher level of basketball, a quicker pace and it’s a great chance for me to prove I can play in the ACC. Weather wise … Oh my god … I am not a big fan, but I also come from Colorado which as unpredictable. I think it is amazing weather because we can ski when it’s 70 degrees which is pretty awesome.
If you didn’t play basketball at BC, what other sport would you like to play?
Tennis. My family loves tennis and plays all the time together.
Away from basketball what do you and your teammates for fun?
We like to hang out together and just enjoy all that Boston has to offer. We go out to eat together a lot. This summer we have been going to the beach, the North End and shop a lot.
What are you hobbies?
I like to play guitar, and I love the outdoors (hiking, camping, and snowboarding). I really just like learning and trying new things and teaching myself to do them well.
